Holl is fine as a bottom pair PK specialist with controled minutes. Not on a championship team but on 2/3rds of the teams in the league.
Low maintenance right handed and has had a good run of health.

He will be in the league for a few more years IMO.

. Holl is a minimum AAV player who is gonna have to get really lucky to land any other deal .. just watch and learn .. he will be out of NHL by end of next year
the fact he’s a RD is why he’ll be around for a while. There is a major lack of RD in the NHL.

This guy must be hurt. He is stinking up the joint, but I think it's due to the fact that he's playing hurt. He needs to sit for a while, and TOR needs to stop gunning for the President’s Trophy. Just put another Marlie in Sandin's spot on the bottom pairing, and promote Sandin to the top 4. Toronto has 4 players already that can play left D. What would be the harm in giving him a 5 game lay off?

He's had all that time off during the shutdown and still looks like crap. I doubt a 5 game layoff is going to do anything to help his game.

Muzzin is averaging over 21 minutes a night. That’s the real problem. If you can drop that total down to 18-18 and a half I guarantee you Muzzin will look a lot better.

At the trade deadline (and ideally sooner), a second pairing dman would be at the top of my priority list.

Rielly - Brodie/New dman
Sandin - Brodie/New dman
Muzzin - Liljegren

He’s struggled all season and it’s extremely concerning. Was hoping his poor play earlier was just a veteran look needing to get up to game speed, but he’s still out there making boneheaded mistakes. His age caught up to him quick.

He doesn’t look like his old self at all. I get he’s 33 but I’ve rarely seen a defence man change the overall look of their game in just one season like that before. I can’t even remember the last time he went for a hit

Ideally we can move on this summer.

Right now for playoffs probably have to hope to get a RHD that can help him.

Rielly. Brodie
Muzz. Xxxx
Sandin. Holl or Lilly

Gio. Chych. Dehaan. Braun would work.
Ugh mayyyybe risto?

muzz long term is a concern.
we might have to run

rielly Brodie
Sandin xxxx
Muzz. Lilly

next year and get rid of him when is NTC stops

He’s fallen off a cliff this season. Offence be damned, his defence has stunk. He’s constantly out of position, he’s getting outmuscled at times, getting players confused, losing his man.

he needs to get his head straight or we won’t be going far. He is integral to this teams success, as a shutdown dman

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that as he gets injured the more we struggle in the post season.

That said, he had a rough game last night.

He is not physical and not hitting anymore. Remember when he just joined the team and his first crushing hits. I thought then we had a player to stop bruins. Last game at stl, no hits at all.

He cruises around like Latter Day Dion Phaneuf these days. Sort of gingerly involved but has the elbows up in a defensive posture and doesn't look for big hits. Also moves the puck kind of slowly and we never see him shoot it anymore other than when he lobs those casual wristers.

I suspect they trade him in the off-season. While he has size and grit his game is falling off a cliff. I think he has been hampered by being saddled with Holl as a partner.

so far, Muzzin's been on the ice for 32 goals against in 620 minutes at 5v5, and the rest of the team has given up 35 goals in 1150 minutes. That might not be the most fair way to evaluate him, but he does so many things that lead to chances/goals against.

Hopefully he can be more useful in the playoffs, when he can just interfere with opposing players rather than let them get past him with ease

This just shows how shallow our D depth is, and (once again) the cap constraints due to a top heavy forward group will always keep TOR from succeeding.

We are here talking about Muzzin slowed/injured, Liljegren who's not quite an NHLer, Dermott who's not a top 4 D, and we have Sandin who's very poor defensively. Oh and then there's Holl who's not fit to be a top 4 D unless Muzzin is playing well.

We have a bad defense again.
Okay thanks…cheer for Columbus

If Muzzin continues his poor play I’m wondering why people believe we can easily dump him in the summer ?

This is just untrue. I’m not saying Sandin is mature enough to take the matchups in the playoffs that had previously gone (and this season probably will go) to Muzzin, but he’s not “very poor” defensively.

Muzzin gets the toughest matchups on one of the best defenses in hockey.

And people think he's someone that not only needs to be dumped but would be impossible to dump?

Leafs fans are so weird.

I don't think he's regressing just yet. Holl has been bad and you can see the growing pains with Lily.

Ideally we leave Liljegren with Muzzin and let him learn how to thrive in those tough matchups while being supported by somebody who has been doing it for years. Once Muzzin's contract is up hopefully Liljegren can take the mantle as our primary shutdown guy.

last year he had 42% of his ice time against elite competition, and he was actually really good in those minutes. He had a 53.7 high danger% and 69 GF%. this year he's down to 32% of his shifts, and is managing 44.8 high danger% and 30 GF%. He went from a legit top pairing guy, to someone who gets lit up against top players. I don't think he would be impossible to dump in the offseason, but I don't see much point in keeping him
