Does that not feel like kicking the can down the road more? Why not try something new for once and actually go hard in tomorrows players. Rantanen nor Marner are coming to Buffalo. EP40 is a maybe but arguably the worst contract in the league. So you get more Zucker like players who are NHL players, but not moving the needle to even being a bubble team, let alone a true contender.

We had holy crap prospects from 2013-2016, then again from 2018-2022... And when you continually put them in a losing culture where they can't be insulated, they stunt development and are dealt out into better organizations.

The Sabres are actually in the upper tier of the league in even strength play, which means when the talent on the team is even against the other team, they are pretty solid. They have had a very bad power play, and their PK was abysmal when they were without Thompson and Greenway. Now that the Sabres are healthy again, their team actually has been pretty good. What they lack is a top tier player NOW, who can come in and give Thompson and Tuch a rest on being the primary scorers.

If I'm Adams, I'm trading a package with Cozens and prospects/picks for EP. I dont think he is nearly as bad as the media is making him out to be. I'd rather swing for that trade rather than deal for another prospect who isn't good enough to not be insulated in the big leagues

In any case, i'd say Willander is the one futures piece in Vancouver that is pretty close to "untouchable". Especially not in a deal for a guy like Quinn who is closer to a gamble on a "change of scenery" candidate than some sort of top tier blue chip impact difference-maker piece at this point.

But yeah...i don't think there's much the Canucks have that makes a lot of sense to Buffalo. Sabres are kind of tough for anyone to trade with right now though. Because they clearly want to get better now...so most futures pieces aren't going to be of interest, but old players probably don't move the needle either. Yet they're also potentially looking to trade the sort of young players with potential like Cozens and Quinn that typically net a futures deal, or are part of a deal for an older established player. Where it seems like Buffalo are trying to just swap their young players with upside for...different young players with upside who are better, or have some different styles or traits to offer.


I think any interest Canucks would have in Quinn would be contingent on Boeser being moved though. As a younger "replacement". Which...who knows what the return on that might be, but it could certainly include something that might be of interest to the Sabres.

I don't think Buffalo has any interest in moving Quinn nor should they. Only way I see them moving him is as an add on for a big time player.

I mean, this is basically the crux of why it's so hard to put together any sort of deal or proposal with Buffalo right now. I understand where that's coming from...but Buffalo is wanting to package a bunch of underperforming young pieces together for a bigtime "upgrade". Pretty much every other team out there is looking to pick off individual "change of scenery" projects at softened value. There just aren't very many teams out there with "bigtime players" they're looking to move for a package of futures and underperforming young players. And the few that are potentially out there, typically have some flavour of trade protection, and very little desire to go to a perennial cellar dweller, questionably operated Buffalo franchise.


It leaves the Sabres kind of gridlocked. As one of the worst teams in the league...but stuck between trading away young players with upside for a shakeup (which has burned them in the past when they go elsewhere and flourish), or basically just running it back with more or less the same roster and just hoping that the same guys "in house" somehow miraculously turn it around. It's a bit of a no-win situation.
