Lock him in for 5 years.

Will take him to the twilight of his career. Anything under 4AAV I'd consider a major win.

He wants to be a Leaf, We desperately want him to stay. Something will get done.

my guess: 5 year x 3.5AAV
5.5 mil

Maybe Holl being shopped is in anticipation for Jack being paid, he has this year and next left on his contract, we trade for a player that helps now with just this year left and then he comes off the books to create the space available for Campbells extension this off-season. Sounds plausible.

There have been reports the contract is already being negotiated.

Article in the Athletic today, quotes his agent as saying no talks taking place.
Jack Campbell and Maple Leafs are not engaged in contract talks, agent says

I'm sure the cornball fan mail is going to drive his reup price through the roof. With that said we need to see more of Mrazek and prevent Muzzin from coco bonking his head off the cross bar again in vain. Etc.

What I'm thinking is that at least either:
- Mrazek is gone
- Kerfoot is gone (or maybe Ritchie)
- Holl &/or Dermott are gone.

I didn't personally care for the Mrazek signing, it was a bit rich given how the team's structured cap-wise. It's early but I think they'll need to look for a cheaper backup next season; I also highly doubt both of Holl & Dermott are back.

Dumb ass gave Mrazek a M-NTC stupid

He's looked good so far this season. Likeable guy, team seems to feel the same. Only caveat is...was he really any better than Freddy in the playoffs? Seems to me we had the same thing in a different package. Couldn't come up with the big save under pressure when we really needed it. I wouldn't be rushing into signing a big contract until I know more about what I have.
Yes. Jack might have been beat once or twice when he shouldn't have been but his stats throughout the series were phenomenal. Freddy only played one good series for us.

Thats just what Dubas wants you to think

This is key. He's never made bank before so signing now and not risking a career injury this season has to be very attractive for him. I really wish this would have gotten done in the off-season but this season just started so his leverage shouldn't be that much more than it was. Time to get it done is definitely now though, Dubas should really drop everything else until this is taken care of. 5x4 seems like a deal both sides can be happy with, make it happen.
Well said, that's definitely true & a major aspect. On the flip side though, guys in this situation could also contemplate letting this go the distance (potentially to free agency) to maximize their big 'cash in', especially since it's their big opportunity where they haven't relatively made a whole lot in the past.

I am with you though, now's the time to get this done with fair commitment.

5m x 4 seems very fair, I think they could go even lower with the right clauses or a year or two added.

Freddie had more than one good series for us IMO. And he was pretty great against CLB, despite what all the haters say.

Last night kind of reminds me of game 7 against MTL. Say we don't score in the last minute and lose 1-0, there would be a ton of people saying it was Jack's fault for letting in one bad goal. Jack was one of our best players against MTL despite the bad goal in game 7, and Freddie was one of our best against CLB.

If we don't resign Jack there is a good chance that I will cry. He is the heartbeat of this team. Rarely do you see a goalie change the mood of the room and keep things light. I can only think of Marc-Andre Fleury who has that ability to be positive under any circumstance. This team needs Jack's ability on the ice, but they also need his personality in the room IMO

the team plays their bag off for this guy. How could you not?

2 approaches
Sign a team friendly deal now
or
Wait until after the season and see if he can both win a round and stay healthy at a premium that will take him out of town.

Be very careful.
1 week ago many fans on this web site defended the fact Soupy should not play 2 games back to back, after 4 days rest.
Is Soupy equiped to play 60+ games. He has never been that busy!

I like this guy, his love of the game, his team first approach, his desire yo be part of the players, nit separate, much the opposite of Fred.

I suggest the sample size is too small. Can we afford another big contract after giving an elite contract to a slightly above average dman. We soon will have 70% of our cap in only 8 players.

I'm not saying you're wrong.

But outside of finding a Goaltender who is young, brilliant and making their name, menaing less $, who else is there as #1 for reasonable money?

I hope they find a way of keeping Campbell, it feels like he fits here, he's doing well. Can a deal be done less than $5m aav? Mrazek is expensive for a #2, but cheap for a #1. Hopefully they find a way to get Jack Campbell in for less dollars, so they can tandem at good value.

It's certainly a tough scenario.

Campbell is the most important signing next yr .
Don't care who we have to trade to fit him in.

Dermot
Holl
Ritchie give him away
Mrazek

We can find a backup for 2.5 mil

So I haven't read this thread yet, sorry if it's already been said but Dave Poulin just said on Overdrive that the AAV has to start at 3.8 and should go up from there. Is that realistic? Mrazek has been a pretty steady goalie in his career. He is worth his contract although he hasn't looked good yet this year. This is Jack's first full season as the starter. Is he really worth say 5 per for 5 or 6 years? Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Campbell fan and I think they should do whatever it takes to sign him.

Mrazek signing was and still is bonkers. 3.8 x 3 was a significant overpayment and clearly Dubas was not thinking ahead to resigning Jack and the impact it would have.

If Jack outperforms Mrazek this year, which is looking like almost a given, he is going to want a significantly healthier contract.

I don’t see anything below 4m.

Dubas continues to squeeze the life out of the team one contract at a time, each causing us to leak talent out the door to fit under the cap.

It’s pretty much standard for Dubas’s contracts
Even when a player isn’t eligible for one (Nylander), Dubas still makes promises to his besties.
If we are resigning Campbell, one of the big boys needs to go. We can’t just keep getting rid of depth and adding minimum wage guys.
