I was more worried and concerned about Jack Campbell’s confidence than I was worried about his overall abilities as a goaltender. A lack of confidence can absolutely affect his performance on the ice, we’ve seen it on many occasions where he looks back every time he makes a save, it’s body language, movements, being overly aggressive, that’s when his confidence is shaken.

Jack Campbell has always played his best when he is calm, not overly aggressive, then that’s when he finds his most success.

I don’t know whether or not Jack Campbell could be a 60 to 70 game goaltender as a number one, but I know I’ve seen enough of him over the last two seasons to know that he’s good enough to play in the playoffs. His goaltending against Montreal was actually pretty top-notch, he was the least of my complaints in terms of the playoffs last season, in fact I had no complaints about him other than maybe that soft goal he gave up in game seven. Either that or game six, I don’t remember, but it’s not what cost them the series. Toronto just couldn’t score many goals in game seven.

The most important thing that I take away from his last five game stretch is that his numbers look good. To me that’s good, yes, but you have to know that probably boost his confidence that much more heading into the playoffs. Getting a shit out to seal home ice for Toronto in the first round boosted it even more.

I may have been negative about our goaltending over the last 4 1/2 months, rightfully so as it has been horrendous for at least 75 to 80% of that stretch. Not only Jack Campbell, Petr Mrazek and sometimes Kallgren.

I still have some concerns about our back up goaltending. It’s hard to scream confidence to me when our back up goaltending has a save percentage in the range of .880% to 888%. Even if Petr Mrazek was healthy, my confidence would be on the same level because his save percentage is on the same level as Kallgren’s.

so for me, it’s Jack Campbell or bust. I think maybe our backup goaltender could fill in for maybe one game, but if it has to go beyond that, then it’s probably lights out. I think it will be a moot point because Jack Campbell will prove me and any of his other doubters wrong that have been harping on him over the last number of months, I don’t mind eating crow if he does. I want to see them succeed, I’m a fan of his as well, I harp on him because I care, not because I hate him.

Good game against Detroit, Soupy, love your enthusiasm and infectious attitude. Nicest guy in hockey.

He’s been really good since returning from injury. Also, he’s been really good his whole career with the Leafs, other than that ~2 month span, where it does sound like he was playing through an injury.

Hope he can continue his strong play through the playoffs - I think he will. Obviously the Lightning are going to score some goals, they’re stacked, but Jack playing well gives us a solid shot.

i have been saying this all season to the doubters - Campbell plays better in the playoffs compared to the regular season. Only three Leaf goalies come to mind like this who stole games in the postseason- Potvin, Cujo and Belfour, and now Campbell. JACK IS OUR BOY

A shout out to all the people who wanted to fire Dubas because he didn't trade a boatload of futures for MAF at the TDL, thereby "wasting a year" of this core.

Jack is the man! :)

I don't think he does well in a goalie share....especially with someone of similar age or younger that would be challenging for his job. He's sensitive or whatever but it's like getting in your own goalies head. with the confidence and expectation of getting all (or majority) the starts he seems to be more affective and focused....his performance in the playoffs kind of supports that theory.

Hopefully next season they just get an old vet goalie that can insulate him rather than someone to push him.

We need to continue to show him some love.
We live at a time like never before, when all of us have mental emotional issues. Instead of deriding others & be negative with athletes or anyone we need to step up and do good!

It's great to hear the "soup" cheers after every save even in Tampa Bay. He played well, I wouldn't say that he stole the game, but he played very well. hopefully his good play continues.

“All the people “??
Probably should show your work on that statement.

You should probably work on your reading comprehension issues.

Andersen and reimer also stole playoff games

Reimer got us game 5 and definitely game 6 in 2013 though he and the team choked in the deciding game

Andersen stole games 5, and 6 in 2018 then choked in game 7, and stole games 3 in 2019 and maybe game 5 though that was also super close

Got it so you make something up and deflect it back as me being unable to read. Carry on, knew it was a mistake to reply.

The key for him is to maintain this level of play the rest of the series and he'll make me a believer.

Last 3 games last year:

Shots against/60: 25.71
expected goals against: 1.84

His numbers:
GAA: 2.79
Save%: .892
HD save%: .682

Can't falter in big games like last year. Keep it up Jack!

Agree with that. He’s been great in 2 of 3 but needs to win a series.

The team has done enough in front of, and in support of, him. In return, Campbell has done his part and also provided the team with a chance.
