Agreed about Campbell but on a side note, yes Matthews left the centre man who scored, but in front of the net they were out manned. Rielly and Matthews were there boxing out as they should have been doing but Brodie was out strolling. He can be seen skating back into frame just after the goal.Probably any goaltender would've let in those same three goals, the first one was a tap in because Matthews wasn't covering his guy. Second one was in the slot and the third one was a deflection, can't fault Campbell for ANY of those.
I think Campbell did a good job, he's not played in awhile and got the win, that's all that matters to me.

Agreed, perfect summary. Campbell last night was absolutely everything that I hoped he would be. Just one game of course but our cup hopes definitely went up a notch after that performance.I think there is more to it than reading the stats.
The team in front of him was not very good. None of those goals were soft or very stoppable. He had some good quality saves particularly in the first - kept them in the game. Came out of his net and made a good play. The play of the skaters in front of him was a much bigger concern tonight.
His pre game and post game interviews were encouraging too in the sense that he seems to be in a good place mentally and physically.
The jury is still out on whether he can regain his early season form. But there was not a lot wrong with his first game back.
So all shots are created equal?3 goals on 31 shots is average
Nice to have him back in the lineup. Even though the team in front of him brought the goods, Campbell still gave them enough of a chance in return to come out of the game with a fair result.
Yeah when I was watching I thought come on guys, his first game back in over a month, our playoff hopes live and die with him and you can't play any better in front of him to welcome him back? Seriously?felt like campbell was the one keeping the team in it the first two periods. in the third the team in front of him returned the favor and put the game away.
You can't fault his play last night on any of the goals, with goaltending like that, we could easily win a series or two/three/four.He stopped the shots he should have which is an improvement. More often than not the Leafs will win with that performance. Sprinkle a couple games in where he stops the shots he shouldn't and they probably win a series or two.
He was completely normal which was great to see. Just wish that point shot didn't get deflected off of the defenseman there and we could have kept it to 2.
I suppose it's for the reasoning that a goalie typically won't hammer home a goal to go along with his shutout?I'm kind of surprised that everyone's losing their minds over M&M tonight and not one person has posted ITT. I get it, those guys put up a lot of points and Matthews made a bit of history but man, it's still a team game, winning the cup is the goal and in that regard, the most important thing about tonight's game was the excellent play of Campbell. That's two quality starts now since returning to action and that my fellow Leaf fans is HUGE!
We pretty much know what we have in M&M but goaltending, that's by far the biggest question mark on this team. If our goaltending holds up this team is a contender and could go all the way but if it doesn't, we're almost certainly a 1st round casualty. It's only two games but still, they were two very excellent performances and that question mark next to Jack in our lineup is a fair bit smaller than it was a couple of days ago.
Welcome back Jack. You played amazing tonight, nicely done. Now go get some rest and stay safe!
