Off-ice chemistry helping drive Leafs top line - TSN.ca

Jack Campbell allowed five goals on 28 shots in a loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. It was the latest setback for the embattled goalie, who is searching to find his game. Keefe likes how Campbell got back to work at Sunday's practice.

"You want to see how he'll react," Keefe said. "How's he going to be today? Is he going to be down in the dumps? Is he going to be tired? Is he going to be showing signs of a guy who's stressed? It was the opposite. He looked to me like he was coming in wanting to do work, wanting to show well. He was playing at the top of his crease. I don't know if he let in a goal in that practice, at least when I was watching, and that was a really good sign that he's just going to continue to fight and compete. We want him to be aggressive and confident in himself. I feel good about putting him back in tonight."

"He's been good," Marner said. "You haven't really noticed a difference in his attitude at all."

How are teammates supporting Campbell?

"You let him set the tone and read off him," Rielly said. "I don't think there's anything going on that's unusual. He's been working hard and feels like he has to find his game ... I don't think he gets too down on himself. I think he holds himself to a very high standard and I think that's a great thing in a teammate."

Campbell stopped 23 of 25 shots to earn a win in Seattle on Feb. 14.

Jack Campbell, is the most likeable guy, since Johnny Bower, in the Leaf org.

Sure, his stats are not good lately.

But if you look at the weird deflects and such going by him, it pure bad luck in a lot of cases.

My point? My point is, stfu for the next ten games.

Let him be. And find the puck again, in a crowd.

Bringing in MAF, might be okay, but it also might be big time destructive.

I dunno, Campbell carried the team, for quite some time.

Live with him.

Live and let live..

The alternative? Bringing in MAP, would be ultra mercenary.
He is giving up many goals in multiple games. Contrary to him is nyr goalie who is 18 and 3 at home and is the mvp in my opinion.

Even though he gave up 4 tonight, he had little chance on the 2nd and 3rd goals, and the 1st and 4th were by no means bad

By far, this was the sloppiest the team has played in front of him in a while

But he managed to keep his composure, made intelligent decisions the few times he ventured behind his own net, and came out to challenge shooters with confidence

Hopefully, he has hit rock bottom and tonight was his first step back towards the mountain top

1st goal is bad, initial shot was blocked so he had to reset for the second one which gives him a bit of an excuse - but the second shot goes straight into the middle of the net. It's hard but not at all well placed, would have hit him right in the crest if he was in position.

It is when it's happening almost every night

He shouldn't be put in a position where he has to make impossible saves multiple times every night. He's been playing poorly, not disputing that but it doesn't make sense to set an arbitrary limit of X goals and say he can't allow more "no matter what". Some nights you can play poorly and allow only 2 goals, other nights you can allow 5 despite playing a great game.

Last 5 starts...

Feb 19 - 5 GA, 5.03 GAA, 0.848 SV%
Feb 22 - 4 GA, 4.01 GAA, 0.867 SV%
Feb 26 - 5 GA, 6.71 GAA, 0.800 SV% <-- pulled after 5 GA
Mar 5 - 5 GA, 5.23 GAA, 0.821 SV%
Mar 8 - 4 GA, 4.00 GAA, 0.867 SV%

Those are absolutely insane numbers. Just one win out of those games too (Mrazek got the Det W).

As others have noted, he tends to have a high-low-high-low-etc flow to him, but it does seem if the highs are really high, the lows are just as low... not really puitting out any kind of consistency there, which you need in your starter. I guess the question is, when does that next high hit, and is it going to come at playoff time, before or never?

If you thinking than fleury is better than campbell right now, just go watch game against tampa yesterday.

I don't know if MAF is the solution, but he literally won the Vezina Trophy last season before being traded from a contender to a tire fire. As opposed to Campbell, whose claim to fame is like 2 months of "Vezina-like" play.

Exactamundo. This is why I hate it when someone mentions a goaliez save percentage for the game as the be all end all. Save percentage and similar stats are good indicators for large sample sizes but really don't have a lot of relevance in just one game. Also, FWIW, Campbell did manage to save one deflected shot last night if that makes a difference to anyone.

Yup, sample size is always crucial. I think SV% is possibly the most telling stat in hockey if the sample size is large enough - sort all the goalies by SV% at the end of the year and that will be really close to ordering them by how well they played that season and I don't think you can say the same for any other stat there is. Over just one game though, even that stat really isn't all that meaningful.
