Leafs will be our downfall like they always are.
We are here to suffer don't forget it

Not knowing what we know now about Babs, when we signed him, I thought if we can't win with a coach like Babcock, we will never win. Then we got A HOF GM and still nothing.

Now I am thinking if we can't win with 34,16,88,44 and 91 how the hell are we ever going to win ??

We are indeed here to suffer and to be tormented and laughed at by the hockey Gods.

Have the Leafs' played defense that deserves an .875 save percentage?

Have the Leafs still been putting together a 100 point pace in spite of the worst goaltending in the league since the start of 2022?

Seems like a Campbell problem.
can ask all the questions you like but this is an on going problem with the Leafs.
every year its the same thing so again Ill ask
is this a Campbell problem
or a Leafs problem?
because I can't really tell the difference.

every year in the stretch they forget how to play hockey

I get the feeling that Ballard is laughing his ass off where ever he is

I think both are a problem. Leafs are a soft team mentally and physically there are some issues there no doubt. But Campbell and Mrazek being absolute garbage is really making this team look like crap lately.

agree with both but still I can't tell if its just Campbell's fault or if the Leafs are just doing classic Leafs stuff
Watch we trade Campbell and then he returns to form while we get one good season out of whoever we get. extend them and in the end we have Toskala 2.0

sorry for replying to the same message twice but the same shit happens with Andersen too
like every year.
Leafs don't have what it take to compete in crunch time. we are a dangerous team no doubt but when teams buckle down we fade and I think thats what we're getting here we all.
I understand that Campbell has let in alot of stinkers lately but I still can't tell the difference between 2nd half of the season issues being a Leafs or just our goalie's issue.

we just straight up suck in the stretch.
Good goaltending or not we just find a way to Lose.

Its both. Campbell was doomed in this situation. Horrible coaching and a high pressure market.

He's going to go somewhere else this summer for cheap and return to stud form.

Yeah our fan base is so toxic....another reason we will never get to see our full potential
our boys are praised like Heroes and then the worst players in the league on a game to game basis
even worse when fans take their frustration out on our players instagrams
gotta be tough to come back when you know everyone is against you

Im sure in a couple weeks Leafs will be on a heater and everyone will be talking about how incredible he is

My “guess” is that Jack is seeing money go out the window every game and it’s spiraling. He has had crazy bad luck in some games. The team has not helped him in home plate. They compete every where except for the slot.

and he has been legitimately brutal in some games.

it’s all spiraling. He can’t catch a break. I think he gets it back before the end of the year. Ends up around 2.5 GAA and .915%.

His price went down. I think he doesn’t like uncertainty and it has snowballed. I wonder if dubas offered him a 2 X 3.5 if he would take it.
Contracts years effect tons of players.

Jack seems more mentally weak then most though. And he can’t get up from a straight butterfly. He seems to go into BF and then tuck his legs under to get back up. He plays like cujo but doesn’t have the big pads.

YUP, good points.

Does Dubas double down and buy low on a multi year deal with Jack?
MAYBE the weight of performing in his UFA season has contributed to Jack's slide. If true maybe he can't cut it in Toronto/playoff hockey.
But I thought he was great in the playoffs last seson.

Campbell is going to be another name in the growing list of goalies that have left Toronto only to re-discover their game elsewhere. At the end of the day this organizations failures in net come down to a few key points:
  • This market is extremely high pressure and tough on goalies especially
  • A f***ing moron for a goalie coach
  • A roster of players that refuse to play winning hockey
  • A GM with a flawed vision of how to build a winning team
It's no secret that Campbell lacks confidence. Those that know me know I've watched him for a long time, going back to his junior days. Campbell is one of the most talented goalies on the planet and one of the nicest guys around. The problem is he's extremely mentally fragile, and this team doesn't have the play style or coaching to support him. Quite frankly I'm shocked he played at the Vezina level he did for as long as he did with this team. But he's going to go to a team with competent off ice leadership like the Isles (barf) or Canucks or Wild and turn his career around yet again, while the goalie carousel in Toronto will continue to turn.

This organization eats goalies alive. At least over the past 20 years or so. Jack is just the latest.

His only salvation is to sign elsewhere this summer and he'll look like Hasek by comparison to what he is now.

As for the team, I don't see Dubas making a move here so the Leafs only hope is that Jack somehow manages to get back into a groove before the playoffs so his head is right going into what will be an enormously important and therefore massively stressful first round for this team.

Or maybe anointing Jack Campbell, a career backup, as some sort of Vezina-calibre workhorse starter was a bit pre-mature on the part of the vast majority of the fanbase, media, or even the Leafs brass themselves.

The guy had literally zero track record of being that type of goalie, save for maybe junior hockey.

We've been lucky to get the kind of play out of him to date, and now that he's come back down to Earth we're seeing what kind of team this is when the goalies aren't bailing them out.

It's pretty scary, actually.

He may not be a Vezina type goalie, but, he could be all star grade.

The goalies are set in stone, so my suggestion to Dubas is to make the backend a fortress. Find one or even two (preferably) big, mean, crease clearing D Men, have them compete for playing time and hope Muzzin returns for the playoffs.

Sandin, Brodie and Reilly are puck carriers to varying degrees, this team need some more nastiness on D. Bush was a solid pick up, these types can at least make the goalies job easier.

They cleaned up the opposition rush issues it seems, I won't blame all of the failures on the goalie with no Muzzin and a couple of green rookies back there.

Last year this teams identity when they were shutting out the high flying Oilers and others was their D. It's why I thought they would beat the Habs. If Dubas could find two Bogosians, I might even lay some money down that they make the Finals.

I don't think i want Campbell back at all. I have zero trust in the guy anymore. This monumental failure he's had the last 2 months and counting isn't something that should be given a chance to rear it's ugly head again. It would've been okay when tanking but we're supposedly trying to win a cup.

Look, if we lose first round Dubas isn’t coming back. He’s gone, Keefe’s gone and wholesale changes are coming. Knowing that, I just don’t think Dubas let’s his career be decided by a mentally fragile question mark. I expect he does do something bold.

If they do lose first round domain think Shanny survives the purge…..after all he is the one who chose Dubas and let him run loose

I'm not sure anyone gets fired unless we get the wheels beat off of us. Hopefully this team can dig deep for once and get the series win. I think if they were to win a series in spite of goaltending it would take the pressure off of Campbell (or Mrazek) and we'd see some better goaltending.

keefe today, his comments on jack.. talk about denial ffs
Whatever Dubas and Keefe are saying is irrelevant, obviously they’re going to pump his tires, protect him, keep him comfortable. Do people really expect him to say “ya, guy is a tire fire and we can’t win with this sieve”? It’s meaningless what they say now, it’s optics.

TNT crew saying Wild goalie needs to be better on those goals in today's games. They called out the goalie for not controlling rebounds.

Our main stream media says Leafs defence is terrible after our goalies allow floaters from the point, and can't control the rebounds.

This basically tells me our media is completely clueless. Does our media just form narratives from 5 years ago and apply it to today?

I may be alone on this but i believe in Campbell. He unquestionably has the ability to be a great goaltender. He is struggling with the mental aspect but that is easier to achieve than having talent. Obviously i wouldn't sign him long term at this point.

He just needs a bit of luck here and there.

I wouldn’t trade for a goalie. I’d ride it out with these 2 and hope they can find it.
Where I’d spend HEAVILY is on defence. I’d try to acquire at least 1 top 4, maybe 2 regardless of where Muzzin is in his recovery.
All goals on Saturday were from in tight. Way way way too easy to play against and can’t box out. Players are simply allowed to skate in front of the net for rebounds or deflections which aren’t really always the goalies fault
