Until this 'rough patch' was he not statistically the best goalie in the NHL since Feb of last year? Apparently not good enough for Leaf fans now they are scapegoating him. Campbell is a big reason why the Leafs are where they are in the standings. Goes for last season as well. Hope they figure out the defence.

He was but its two separate seasons separated by a summer break. It's not that they are scape goatting him, its that he has fallen off a cliff compared to where he was a month ago. 4 goals on 19 shots is pretty piss poor... we might have to go back to Andrew Raycroft to find stats that bad.

Some people might not like it but I am kind of glad we have not signed him to a long term extension yet. I like him but I haven't seen anything out of him that I haven't seen in Reimer, Bernier or Andersen. He's not going to be the IT factor for us to win a series or Cup, we'll win because we played well in front of him...he's not the type of goalie who will shut things down when we are up 3-2 in a series and are looking to close it.

Rather roll the dice between both Mrazek and Campbell for now and then go with Mrazek/1B next year instead
of paying Campbell a lot of money and then having an inexperienced back up where we are basically giving away free points every time we play the backup.

He's too emotional for his own good. He probably takes things too hard and doesn't get over losses quickly and that's why his wins and losses both snowball into streaks.

So which of Mrazek and the mystery 1B do you expect will have that IT factor that you're looking for?

Less than 90% save percentage in 7 of his last 14 games. That's every other game. And he plays for the Leafs. A team that rarely loses a game.

That's really bad......Imagine how worse the numbers would be on another team that isn't one of the 8 playoff teams. He'd be one of if not the worst starter in the entire league. Like Matt Murray sent to minors tier.

So this contract situation is iffy now. Even 4 mil is too much if he's more of a tandem goalie than a no.1

None of them will have the IT factor because we're not paying a goalie that much money but I'd still rather Mrazek+1B over Campbell + 1D for the same price (likely way cheaper as Campbell will want 6M + and a back up is at least 1M). Mrazek is ~4M and a back 1B back up is probably ~2M.

Not sure it makes sense to be worried about Campbell continuing to play poorly and wanting 6M, hard to see both these things happening. Lots of hockey to be played yet, we'll see what happens.

Can't imagine him signing for any less than that regardless of what happens in the playoffs or the rest of this season, it's his last and more importantly biggest payday and there are teams like the Oilers who are desperate for any sort of goaltending that would likely give him that.

Don't know what to make of Jack lately. I don't worry about a couple bad games, that happens to everyone but now it's an extended stretch of poor play. If they can't find a way to help him over these mental hurdles in short order i'm concerned about making a serious contractual commitment to him.
I kind of expected Keefe to recognize Campbell didn't have it last night and yank him after three goals in 3 minutes or sooner but for some reason he stood fast. Should have been obvious we were holding the shitty end of the goaltender stick.

Remember when we couldn't afford him cause he was a $6M Vezina contender and Dubas blew it in the summer, and now most of you want to throw Campbell into the dumpster?

I'd reckon it's somewhere in between.

Campbell asking for $6m does not mean he was worth it. Luckily the Leafs did not like that number. Either way how much Soup is worth is going to come down to how he performs in the playoffs (see Philip Daneault). Thinking he should have taken whatever the Leafs' highest offer was.

He's certainly opening the door up for Mrazek here. I love Soupy though. And honestly, if you look at his dip in play, imo it started when he lost the fans. Chanting his name, and the roar of the crowd. I think he really uses it to draw from. But this dip in play could be great long term in re-signing him. The more Mrazek can match his play, the better your odds are for having Soup re-sign for a number closer to 4mil

Jack's style doesn't look as structured as other great goalies in the league.. he kind of has a bit of a brodeur hybrid thing going on. I love watching it, but it makes me unconfident. In comparison to a player like Price who seems very methodical and robotic while looking big in the net. I was surprised to see Campbell is 6'3 and the same height as Vasilevskiy.

Oddly enough I feel a bit bad for Campbell, because he is such a nice guy, I actually want him to cash in - he's had a long stressed journey and he seems like he deserves it as much as anyone.

He had a .934 SV% last year and we still lost..

I guess one issue I see with Campbell is he's either elite in an unsustainable way, or plays mediocre. There's no consistent flow of .92

Playoffs he comes out hot, almost .97 in first 4 games. Follows up with .89 for the final 3.

This season is similar, but worse, because playoff bad wasn't as bad as it is right now. His current .921 is a bit of a lie because you can't use it to describe his play this season. Someone would need to explain to a stat watcher that it was unsustainable play combined with becoming Toskala that made it a .921.

That is great if he can maintain it the entire series.

It doesn't help when he puts up below a .900 across the last three games and loses all of them, especially when the goalie on the other side is putting up a .940 with much more difficult work to do.

Andersen was the same way in a few of the series too. Played well enough for most of the series, but it doesn't help when he puts up an .850 in Game 7, or the goalie on the other end outplays him even when he plays well.

And in the recent series, we are not even asking for our goalie to steal the games... We are literally asking him to keep us in the games when the other team gets a few opportunistic chances, most of which are not even difficult stops, and we are not getting those saves. It is just like the game yesterday; a few of those goals were really soft, and even the ones that were decent shots, they were very stoppable pucks that you need out of your goalie if you want to win the Cup. The other team is getting those stops; we are not.

We are in a good position, we're comfortably in the PO barring a catastrophic turn of events. Give Jack a medium work load, see if he can sort it out. We have a decent 1B in Mrazek, not a world beater but not a nightmare. If Campbell shits the bed the rest of the way or in the PO, we move on. If he's OK, we may be able to re-sign at 4/4.5m and if he's lights out, take the success, and let him walk if the ask gets to 6m. Hope he works it out soon.
