He has been lousy as of late but, not all his fault. The team has been horribly outplayed the last 10 games. They have been dominated. Can’t expect Campbell to score the goals as well and save them.

Jack's value is starting to plummet. Maybe we'll be able to fit him under the cap.

We always were able to fit him in. It was classic overreaction in the first place.

I guess it will be even easier to fit him in. He went from competing for 5 mill to trying to hang onto 4 mill per year.

We can definitely make room for Campbell but the picture gets cloudier if the quality of his play and Mrazek's play converges and we end up with a platoon stats line and more Mrazek time down the stretch and into the playoffs. Then suddenly you're contemplating the $4-5 million Campbell money on top of the Mrazek money, or choose one and get another platoon. And by that point Mrazek is baked in at a cheap cap hit. Then things get a little spicier...

leafs are in trouble. big big trouble. BIG. I wouldne even sign him, tbh.
They have a quality and capable 1A signed for 2 more years under $4m they’re fine if Campbell plays himself off the team in either direction.
Reality is that if he continues to come back to earth somewhat maybe you can lock him in for around the mrazek number and then you have both for the next few years.

Another few weeks of this and we will be able to afford him, awesome!
In all seriousness, im sure he is just struggling a bit and will be fine. Maybe the all-star game will help.

Jack Campbell is just like any other play in the NHL, he's not immune to having a bad stretch of games. Virtually every goaltender goes through it no matter how good they are.

I do feel expectations of him were sky rocketed because he carried a .940%+ and a sub 2 GAA for a few months. No goaltender can be expected to play an entire season like that, not even the best ones can play at the pace... ever.

I still have faith that he'll find his game and get out of this funk. I think he's a fabulous .920% to .925% goaltender and he'll get back to that soon, just have that feeling.

Some of it also has to do with how many clean looks the opposition has had over the last month. Some of it is due to him not being on top of his game, like the goal he gave up last night off a bad rebound.

He has to get better, but the team in front of him has to let him do his job and not let so many players get so many clean looks at him.

Today is the first day I miss Trevor Moore. Don't do this to us Jack. Make me forget him again.

Here’s the way I see it….

when the team wast mediocre , Campbell bailed them out. Now that Campbell is mediocre, the team is bailing him out.

and now he becomes more affordable.

I see all of this as an overall net positive.

Have we made up our minds if Covid is a mild cold or a serious medical illness yet?

I was attempted to be shamed/banned on here for my opinions and was told under no uncertain terms it was deadly and the latter, but right now everyone is treating it like the Leafs time off like was the former. The whole team had it including Jack, right?

So what is it now? So are we now bending these time off arguments like they were just sitting doing nothing by choice and they should be in tip top shape?

Most are playing both sides of the coin.

This "he's played to many." garbage needs to stop.

They went through a stretch where they played about 5 games in 5 werks, he's had plenty of rest

I think it has to do with the number of games he has played more than the timeframe. He is already almost at his career high in the NHL and we just hit the halfway mark of the season.

Personally, I don't think he is "tired" more than just sloppy right now. Not a good January at all. Far too many soft goals, bad rebounds, and poor positioning. Simply not sharp.

Fortunately, Mrazek has been playing fairly well to make up for it and Mrazek should be getting at least close to a 50-50 split the rest of the way anyways. That way Campbell can hopefully be sharp for the playoffs.

Campbell has been a backup his whole career and hasn’t proven he can carry the load as a starter through even one full season yet. That is why he gets less runway to be bad than a proven starter.

there is a higher probability his Good play was just a Matt Murray style hot streak that someone who has multiple seasons as a proven starter.

The overreaction to his short stretch of good play and the overreaction to his short stretch of awful play are equally premature.

One thing is for sure though... hes getting completely outplayed by Andersen (gunning for vezina). Its just hard to be a consistent goalie behind a soft team like the leafs...

I can’t like this post enough. If you want to see red flags, look at Jordan binnington and Matt Murray. Do you really want to give Campbell a 6x6 contract based on his lack of not even being able to do the workload of a starting goalie for one season….

Campbell is definitely off. He's dropping too early and completely misjudging some shots. I don't know if the time off just threw off his timing that badly or he's rattled.

If only it was that black and white. The disease affects people differently. I've played hockey for 36 years, wife's been practicing yoga regularly for 25y. My wife was down and out sick for 4 weeks whereas I was ok but sick for 7 days. My wife has no noticeable after effects, whereas I am incredibly fatigued every f***ing day after 5pm no matter how much sleep I get or how well I feel. We're a long ways away from professional athlete's fitness levels, but we aren't slouches either. The severity and aftereffects hit different people differently, so I don't think its accurate to believe it's just "one or the other".

Leafs are a good goalie away from making a serious run and potentially turning this head into a special season
