I’m of the belief that the FO doesn’t want Jack playing his way into a big contract. I remember hearing Keefe on a radio interview pretty much infer that the plan was for these two tenders to have a timeshare.
Even if Jack is the 1A in their depth chart they still wanted to cap his value. I’ve seen plenty of goalies go from backup positions to starters so I don’t buy the workload excuse. He’s a pro and most likely changed his prep over the summer when he chose to bet on himself.
No goalie is consistent throughout 82 games not even the elite. It should be jacks crease to lose.
