just a funk. Soup will snap out of it. an example of this? well look how well he played for the first half of the season.

After game start #25 for Campbell he had an [+18.5 goals saved above expected] = #1 in NHL
vs
From starts #26-30 he has let in 21 goals in 5 games = 4.2 GAA/g from his usual 2.25 season average and his [+11.9 goals saved above expected] = 9th in NHL

The real Jack Campbell is likely somewhere in the middle of this 2 data sets, not as good as his first 25 games and certainly not as bad as his last 5.

However Leafs former #1 goalie Freddy Andersen in his 29 starts this year has a [+20.7 goals saved above expected] = #3 OA and is outperforming Campbell but that might due to Andersen being a tried and tested #1 goalie that has played 65+ games in a season vs Campbell who has never started more than 30 in any season, so is now in untested territory already when it comes to workload in a season. Carolina being better team than our Leafs also likely factoring into these results also, because if Freddy was playing in front of Leafs I suspect his #'s would be lower as well.

Though lets face it. Neither he nor Campbell in their careers has sustained success in the playoffs. Both goalies are open books there. Regardless how each perform this regular season, fans from both teams will be wanting playoff success

I'm more inclined to believe this rather than the numbers. Carolina is just a solid team all around with a good system and coach - all of which make Freddy look good.

He's not as good as he was earlier in the year and he's not as bad as he played recently

He's somewhere in the middle

Freddy is either #1 or #2 in goaltendings stats.

if Fredlight would've had those numbers in Toronto, there would've been no circumstances under which Toronto would've let him walk, nor would've allowed Carolina to get him for a fairly inexpensive 4.5m per year.

I didn't get that impression reading his post. He mentioned that Andersen is having a good year and that perhaps its because he's playing on a team that is good defensively. Pretty sure most people would recognize that a goalie can have a bad stretch for a few games.
most you would think, but.........?

When you compare Freddy Andersen at $4.5 mil X 2 years vs Petr Mrazek @ $3.8 mil X 3 years it suggests the Leafs should have kept Freddy and tandem him with Campbell instead.

I don't feel as though Andersen was looking for a tandem role just yet. I imagine that's even tougher to do with a team where one has been the starter for a handful or so of seasons as well. The current numbers belonging to Andersen and Campbell also aren't likely to look as impressive if they each aren't receiving the lion's share of starts.

Career: Andersen GAA 2.61, Sv% 916/ Mrazek GAA 2.60, SV% 911
Given that Mrazek is 3 years younger, 700,000 a year cheaper and signed a year longer. I think he was the better option if we knew we were going 1A/1B with Tenders. I believe there is no way Fred puts up those numbers here. I think when the pressure is on Fred will wilt.

Fred Andersen never played as well early in the season with the Leafs as he did this year with the Canes. He's always had slow starts.

Last year he had a slow finish, too, and my overall impression from watching the Leafs TV show is that he seemed to be a bit of a headache for the coaching staff as the year wore on.

If Fred had done last year or the year before that whatever he did this year to get ready for the season, he would still be with the Leafs and would be making a lot more money.

Maybe he needed the wakeup call.

He’s played 7 games since December 14th. The scheduling due to covid hasn’t helped him at all but goalies do have bad weeks. Even the best ones have rough stretches.

Andersen had 5 years to prove he wasn't the guy.

So Campbell doesn't get that too?
The FO has looked for every excuse to give Mzarek the job. If Campbell keeps playing like this even with the rough stretch they won’t be able to afford him.

this is a great way to artificially slow him down,
