Don't care where the tournament is played as long as there's a way to watch the games, hasn't always been the case in cze/slo.

Noooo, please. I love to attend this tournament in the summer. :( But I understand why it is intriguing move for Hockey Canada / TSN.

Leave it where it is so others can enjoy it. Hockey Canada and TSN don't need anymore money

All the games are now online since last year. And who doesn't have fun following those slovak websites with live text commentary with those funny translations lol.

this tourny is second to world juniors
it is a high profile to show case kids

yet TSN doesn't broadcast Hlinka in Canada. It's a tournament that's followed only by hardcore hockey geeks playing fantasy GM. Perhaps that will change with a local venue once every 3 or 4 years...if that's the plan.

Oddly enough TSN broadcasts the IIHF spring U18...the one Canada can never send its real A team to due to the CHL playoffs.

Well, at least in Piestany, the hockey club has zero money, so this might be a move purely down to funding.

Why not play it in Canada? Its the only place where you get ticket scalping for Netherlands vs. Bulgaria! Also, kids in Edmonton are probably a lot more familiar with this tournament than Czech or Slovak kids.

For Canada, yes. For other countries, no.

Nobody cares about it even in Europe. Finns and Swedes often pick the the most talented players from the age group to play at the Lake Placid U-20 tournament instead.

It also doesn't attract the high profile US kids either - most of them are with NTDP.

It's really only important for Canada...Canada uses the event as the draft-season start for the top U18 players. This is why Canada almost always wins at the tournament...because it sends a stacked team. It's also why IIHF U18, while more important for other countries, isn't so important for Canada (b/c it occurs at a time where a lot of kids are tied up with CHL playoffs).

Has there been any confirmation of where the tournament will be this summer?

That would be awesome!

Only time we can send our best U-18s, I would definitely attend some games. Even non-Canada ones.
