Player Discussion Ivan Demidov: Welcome to Montreal

Whatever happened to Guhle is done.
There is 3 on 2 for Chicago and Demidov did not skate back hard enough.
I am sure he knows he made a mistake here. It's all good, anyway, he is learning.
What you saw there was a young man mentally and physically tired after a long trip to Toronto then a few days of practice and media meets in not one but two unfamiliar languages.

Watched every SKA games and one notable part of his game is hard work.

Demidov probably needs 12 hours of sleep, you won’t see a lack of effort from him often, not in his DNA.

Is it only me that do not care about who they are putting the blame on that goal?
Especially not Demidov who is playing his first game with complete new teammates (adjusting to them and their tendencies) Could he have backchecked harder? Surely. Was he tired? 100%. Could he have prevented the goal? No chance even if he went full throttle. He is not super human when you are tired it's harder to put the extra hustle and giving it all. Guhle will have to learn that when he is playing with Hutson he should be more careful pushing forward. Demidov should learn to limit these turnovers especially when he is already quite tired.

Boys read to much HFBoards about Bedard being a bust so left him alone. He's still got a chance to tie Lane Hutson in points.

pretty much. His team is awful, still in shock they didn't take Demidov. f*** imagine those two together? Jesus

Perhaps. But I have the perspective that a pinch is only as bad as whether there is someone to cover for you or not. There was someone to cover for him - it's not like he left the team stranded. The covering forward just happened to give up the puck on a forced shot.
If he played for Nashville, Guhle can’t do what he did because their system doesn’t allow it. If Guhle bears no responsibility he could have helped with great situation awareness, he doesn’t know Demidov from a hole in the wall.

Hughes said the expected him to make a Hutson-like first impact and I think he absolutely did.

Also, it feels like the first superstar forward in my lifetime. I want to pinch myself and still don't fully believe it, but the body of work is definitely trending that way.

Demidov is already so deceptive; it's insane.

That being said, he will need to cut down on the long shifts. That one 4 on 4 shift that he stayed on for a while (for a chunk of the PP as well) gassed him. You could see in the next few shifts that he was not fully recovered yet. On that backcheck, he as completely gassed. It might be the jetlag, so I'm not holding him accountable for it.

Also, shame on Newhook for missing so many grade A chances and especially missing that easy pass to spring Demidov on the breakaway in the OT.
That’s Newhook. Only 40% of his shot attempts are on goal.

And to think, some people wanted Cayden Lindstrom.

Only because no one actually believed Demidov would be there. I thought for sure Chicago or Columbus (especially with all their current Russian stars) would take him.

So yeah, there was discussion on Lindstrom, Iginla, Sennecke and the defensemen. But, once he fell to us, there was pretty much a complete board melt down.

The Demidov & Hutson picks were 2 picks that everyone seemed to agree we should make. Unlike say the Slafkovsky pick, which led to fierce infighting.

Timmins is an idiot.

'Oh we don't need those, we're the shitty forwards club'

He has such a presence when he's on the ice... another poster mentioned it, but he does give off Kovalev vibes.

Much more implicated than Kovalev.

He will be a consistant version of Kovalev and better all around aswell.

This guy is very very special.

He give me Radulov intensity vibe!

I will add this : the deck was stacked in Levshunov's favour because Chicago's head scout watched him year-round in Michigan State, which he did not with Demidov. Chicago had a Russian scout on site, but the head scout was more comfortable with Levshunov whom he saw in person multiple times. The Hawks being surprised that Demidov was not a 5'10 smurf until he showed up at Milstein's mini-combine was a failure on their end.

Lesson to be learned: if you are expecting to tank, do your due diligence. It's not like Demidov came out of left field, many of us were praying (coping really) that we might get a chance at him after the 2023 draft debacle.
Levshunov will be very good though.

Lindstrom was one of my favorite players I've ever looked at for the draft. I feel very sorry about his injuries. He's has everything to be an amazing powerforward.
