SKA are running a business. Demidov does still have a valid contract with them. I don’t think SKA really cares much if he plays with Neva. The relationship between the KHL and NHL has been poor or non-existent. I think they just want to stick it to the NHL.

And SKA will get some pushback by some Russian media that they’re not being fair to Demidov. I think SKA has nothing against the Habs, just that they’re not in their equation. And there’s not much Habs can do.

Granting Demidov his release could show goodwill and encourage future top young players to play for SKA, and thus be good for business...

To hold a young player back from living out his dream is beyond stupid. Would love to know how the Flyers got Michkov out of Russia. It would be in habs best interest to get him to Mtl ASAP.
SKA didn't even want Michkov near their team, they loaned him to Sochi for 2 years, then ripped up his contract when he was supposed to play with SKA. They didn't want to deal with him at all.

A Stormy Romance: Will Rotenberg Stay at SKA After Sensational Elimination from the Gagarin Cup?

Source: Sport.ru

Sport.ru / Hockey. The hockey community has mixed feelings about Roman Rotenberg. Although, let's be honest, the vast majority does not like him. This often happens when a person without the appropriate education and experience suddenly takes over an entire industry, which SKA certainly is. Moreover, he is not going to manage the club, but to coach the team.

Of course, Rotenberg understood perfectly well that it is dangerous to play with fire, so he probably assembled a powerful coaching staff, and took on himself mainly the functions of the team's political representative. The number of ironic and angry comments under each of his speeches at press conferences is innumerable. But, on the other hand, Rotenberg attracted the attention of the audience to the club and to himself at the same time.

(…’)

The club's board of directors will meet again to assess the results of the season. And whether Rotenberg will be able to remain in his post depends on what course the club decides to take. If media coverage is more important than results, then no one will look for alternatives. If the primary goal is to return the Cup to St. Petersburg, then it is certainly necessary to strengthen the sports component. Stars and a speaker are good. But a team and a collective must be molded from this. Here we need a Coach with a capital letter.

Actually, this crossroad is now the main problem of SKA. Rotenberg, by the way, can be kept, but only the public sphere can be given to him. And in sports there should be peace and quiet. The players do not aim to look bright in front of the cameras in interviews – they must show themselves on the ice. If there are results – there will be popularity. This is the example Ted Leonsis gave, recalling the period of the team’s formation under Alexander Ovechkin.

Good post.

Our hockey world may revolve around everything Habs, but that doesn’t mean that SKA’s does nor should we expect that. They will do whatever they think is in their best interests according to whatever motivates them, well-intentioned or not, and whether we Habs fans mostly halfway around the earth approve of it or not.

It’s one thing for fans in this thread to discuss how much ice time and what line Demidov was playing on, and now if he will be released early or not. However I don’t see the point of so much vitriol being directed at their coach, the team, their league, their country, their culture, and whatever else some people want to blame for us not getting what we want when we want it.

Demidov’s contract goes until May 31st. He is eligible to be sent down to SKA’s affiliate in the MHL.

If I were the Habs I would try to talk to the owners of SKA and offer them one million dollars for his immediate release.

Yes it would suck for Geoff Molson to pay that money. Jersey sales could help offset it a bit. Put Demidov on the second line with Laine and Newhook. If he could spark that line and add some offence in that could be the difference between winning one playoff game or not. If the Habs make the playoffs and get to a game six of the first round it would be a third home playoff game. With that the organization would make millions of dollars. Thus making a profit on Demidov for Molson.

Tomorrow’s schedule :

- 07:00 EST / 14:00 St.Petersburg , SKA accounce the release of both Nikishin and Demidov. CAR and MTL both announce in conjunction the signing of their prospect to their ELC.

- 16:00 EST, Demidov’s gloves are spotted at the airport.

- 19:00 EST, Montreal vs Detroit, Montreal wins against the Redwings ( Demidov is not in the line-up, obviously )

- 22:02 EST, Post Game coach St-Louis hint that Demidov will play the next game.

It’s gonna be a beautiful day lads.

Lol SKA owners are billionaire oligarchs who can basically print money. They would laugh in Molson’s face if he offered them $1M. It’s not about the money for them.

these podunk teams best realize the Habs are the mecca.....we take what we want and when we want.
