Nikishin is not going to the AHL. I know Carolina fans have been salivating over that kid for years. He's not going to learn how to play in the NHL in the KHL that's for sure.

The kid is already 23, will be 24 in October, and has stayed in Russia 5 years post-draft. If he doesn't come over now when his contract is over, then he's probably never coming. He can make massively more money in NHL than KHL.

I believe he's told Carolina he wants to come now, which is why he also hasn't signed a new contract.

Demidov won't play a game in AHL. They didn't do it to Slafkovsky or Hutson, they won't do it to Demidov. He'll grow with the team.

Just for amusement sake: If SKA terminates the contract, I know that 100% of fans would want Demidov over. But if playoff games count for the 10 games minimum ELC slide, does Habs brass do it? They can't just end his season in the second round once he reaches 10 games...
