Is this a real photo
It's from The Courrier with Benedict Cumberbatch

Y'know... this movie:

Why wouldn’t he simply wait until his contract is over in less than two months?

Everyone here is assuming Demidov is more loyal to the Habs than he is to Russian Hockey. I’m pretty sure he’d be thrilled to play for his country and wouldn’t want to jeopardize that needlessly.
Because he gets paid right away and gets 1 year taken off his ELC meaning he can sign a big contract even earlier.

On top of which playing in the NHL and winning the SC is his dream, it's not about loyalty to the Habs it's about chasing his own dreams.
Would be dumb, since Russia won't be banned forever.
Sure but then you look at what would the remedy be? With Radulov he had to return to the NHL and play the "final year" of his ELC, and it's in quotes because Radulov played the year in the KHL, and then went back to Nashville after his season was over to play the final 9 games + playoffs. For Demidov, what does fulfilling his contract look like? He's already played out the year for them so he what owes them a month of his summer where he doesn't have to play any games? Honestly it's more then likely that it would be ruled unenforceable by the IIHF and that once a player's season is over he can sign with whoever he wants even while still under contract.

But in anycase the point isn't so much to say this is what will happen, it's an example to show that SKA doesn't hold all the cards or have as strong a position as many assume. Demidov and the Habs do have their own leverage.

He will be free in 2 months, it's not worth it.

I mean it's 100% worth it for him to take a year off his ELC if he can.

But hypotehtically say it happens and Demidov wants to do in order to clear things up with the IIHF same as Radulov, what does the IIHF order Demidov to do to "fix" things?
Why would the IIHF have anything to do with it. All they would need to know is that SKA agreed to let him go.

I hope Rottengerg finds it in his heart to release Demidov earlier. It would be huge for Demidov's development to play nhl playoff games. It would also make the habs a tough team to beat since now we would have a good 2nd line on top of already having a good 1st line and bottom 6.

Alright I didn’t want to say it but all the speculation gives me no choice :

I’m RR’s cousin and yesterday he fell asleep crying while drunk on my couch because the gazprom brask told him that they already have a deal with MTL and CAR to release them of their contract obligation. They are working with the marketing teams to make it official but also to make it seems like they are doing a favor for the players to appear as favorable as possible to the hockey world. Growing hockey relations and growth of the sport. Should be official today or tomorrow.

Putting my insider reputation on the line with that 50/50
