I could be wrong but I thought the only thing stopping a player from breaking their contract and signing anyways is that the IIHF punishes the player by not letting them participate in international tournaments. But given Russia isn't allowed to participate anyways what's really stopping him from saying F-it and signing anyways.

No one knows what will happen so we just have to wait and see. There are rumors that the coach could get fired, if that happens who knows how that will impact their decision to either release him from his KHL contract now or wait till it ends next month on the 31st.

They can loan him to the MHL (up 2-0 in their series) or the VHL where his older brother plays (they just advanced 4-2, waiting next round to start)

Vanya is free from the KHL and his coach. But, is he really free?

If you want to dream about it go for it. Dreaming never heart anyone

I’m dreaming Sydney Sweeney respond to my DM since she’s single
It’s my preference. However what I really want is closure. Maybe we’ll get it very soon? Or maybe you’re GM Konstantinov’s wife or HuGo? I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Full disclosure: I’m an expert in Sydney Sweeney responses. I am willing to be recognized as such by mods. I will absolutely bring closure for you on that issue.

He is a SKA assets until May 31st. However the season is over. No more games. There is literally zero reason to keep him here except spite. Russians love a good deal though.

Not withstanding rules and contracts etc....is there absolutely anyway for him to come over? Can SKA terminate his contract as a goodwill gesture, obviously expecting something later in return?

My second point is what kind of agent locks their player into a contract that expires on a hard deadline? Why wouldn't they say...May 31st or upon completion of SKAs playoffs.

From his client perspective he can come over and start earning that ELC and burn a year. If he arrives for Tuesdays game. or even gets in for Friday and plays out the season, if we go 5 or 6 games in playoffs he burns a year. This would be huge for him.

Lets f***ing go and get this kid here for Tuesday. Maybe he practices all week and plays Friday. 6 games in playoffs and voila a year burned. It's a win win as he comes in and helps us and he gets to burn a year.

If Demidov came to play this year and played more than 10 games in the NHL, would it mean that his ELC would expire in the 27-28 season? If so, I think we should avoid having him play in the NHL this year. Having him on the cheap side for three years in more important IMHO.

yes exactly what it would mean. Could payoff if it pushes us into the 2nd round though! get the kid here now.

One less year at ELC cap hit won't make much difference on the team long term cap structure.

As it's been said over and over, his contract ends May 31th, so the only chance he could join the Habs this year is if we make it to the third round of the playoffs. Obviously, quite unlikely.

Not trying to be argumentative, but is there actually any reason why he can't sign with the NHL while still under contract? I thought the NHL and KHL didn't have an official agreement.

International labour laws. Even without a Transfer Agreement, KHL and NHL teams will pay lip service to it.
