I could stand Forsberg for one more year, but my god it is remarkable how much of an anchor that Korpisalo contract is. Even I never guessed it'd be *this* awful.

A Forsberg buyout is much easier to stomach given it's only on the books for 2 years. It's a no brainer.

The unfortunate reality is that there are very few quality goalies available and the team isn't going to be able to find two quality goalies.

Bone dry. The only guy on that list I'd feel confident going into a season with as the starting goalie is Stolarz.

Trade market is also lacking. There's guys like Saros and Ullmark, but both are UFAs after next season and almost certainly won't want to re-sign here. And if you look at what the Flames were asking for a 34YR old Markstrom from the Devils, the cost would be exorbitant for one of those guys.

With Korpisalo, we are stuck and need to hope to god he can find his game a bit better next season with the new goalie coach. We definitely need to go get another goalie as well to carry the ball…I don’t think we buy out korpi for at least another 2 seasons

If it's true that Ullmark nixed a trade to Ottawa, they might still be able to get him through offering him a contract at the absolute upper level of his market value and faxing him photos of Klingberg and Lindholm.

If I'm a 30 year old goalie coming to Ottawa, I want the big retirement contract with term, a NMC, and signing bonuses that ensure if I get stuck with a bad defensive team in front of me at least I'm still earning and can't lose money or get forced to the AHL ala Jack Campbell.

If that happens, Forsberg goes with Chychrun.

A Korpisalo buyout doesn't happen because they can save a similar amount of cap through burying him, it's just structured differently where they save less cap in the short term but have dead cap for a shorter period of time.

Not much amongst that list that is particularly enticing. Might not be worse, but it might not be much better either.

That’s just it, isn’t it. Hard to imagine a goalie wanting to come here unless he has few options, or is near or nearer the end of his career and is getting a big contract that he can live comfortably on in retirement.

The Senators haven’t learned how to cover the opponents in their own zone that are in the best position to score. Last night was just another example of that.

If I am Ullmark, the Senators need to offer something like 6+ year at 6.5M with a NMC, front loaded money, and signing bonuses - and there has to be no other option for an early extension.

He will be 32 when a contract kicks in. Getting only 3-4 years term in Ottawa could be a career ender for a goalie at that stage of his career.

The tradeoff for coming to Ottawa would have to be that no matter what happens, he's maximized his earnings and can't get bought out or exiled to the AHL.

Look at Huberdeau. If he is like most players, Calgary was not his first choice - but he signed there because they gave him the absolute peak of his market value in money+terms and he is looking smart for taking it because he probably would have gotten tens of millions of dollars less as a free agent.

It's understandable that Sens nation would be writing these guys off as the worst goalies to have ever played for us. And yes, they have been bad this year.

But... there are always teams desperate for goaltending. And there aren't a lot of options. Just a hunch, but GMs around the league probably know Korpse and Forsberg aren't as bad as their records indicate. They know them as actual people.

They've had piss poor seasons playing behind a soft, inexperienced team. But I wouldn't be shocked if a GM, desperate enough for goaltending, picked Korpse up this summer.... and then watch him have a rebound year like Talbot did this season.
