Is PLD wanting to play only in Montreal only, a fabrication of a certain media guy in Montreal?
Obviously if the money is right, he will go almost anywhere, just not the Peg, and Columbus! LOL

I'm not even aware this fabrication was, indeed, fabricated.

It all started at the 2022 draft when his agent Brisson said to TVA Sports during their broadcast that PLD would like to play in Montreal. He was an RFA at the time so even though he was under team control, he was still a free agent, so Brisson saying was fine. He wasn't speaking out of turn.

He didn't say Montreal was the only place he wanted to play in, but that he would like to play there.

There is a sector of the media that are pushing for him. But even those who don't push for him have said that they've heard PLD has wanted to play for the Habs since the start of his career. Even Aaron Portzline (Columbus beat writer) said that it's true and that Montreal was preparing to offer sheet him when he first turned RFA, but Columbus traded guys and make cap space to match any potential offer sheet.

But hoping he'd play for the Canadiens doesn't mean he will refuse to sign with another team if he does hit the market.

I think most of us here, are of the opinion, if we can get him for a reasonable price, do it............but we all seem to agree he is not a guy who you sell the farm to get.
Bottom line he is a 60 pt guy who seems to do it fairly quietly. That could be the fact he played in two markets we don't hear or see much.

My gut tells me where there is smoke................and the Jets don't have much leverage, so........

I think the bolded part is the part people need to remember for those in favor of acquiring PLD via trade. Nobody is saying he's worth any trade package or any contract.

But, out of his 6 seasons, he's had:
- 3 x 60+ point seasons.
- 4 x 20+ goal seasons, 3 of them at 27+ goals.
- 5 of his 6 seasons, he was in the playoffs for a total of 26 pts in 38 playoff games.

Habs don't have PLD types running around the organization.

He will turn 25 in June, Suzuki will turn 24 in August, Dach and Caufield will turn 23 in January. So PLD fits the age group of the core you're trying to build with. He's 6'2" and 205 lbs, so he adds size, as well as skill (like Dach). And like Dach, you have the advantage to use him both at center and the wing.

So having 4 of your Top-6 consisting of Suzuki, Caufield, Dach & PLD. And these guys aren't redundant. They all produce and have skill, but they each offer something the others don't. So it adds variety to your Top-6.

Then you look to see who can complete that Top-6. You do have options. You have Anderson. You have RHP, who last year showed he can be a complimentary piece there. You have Slaf that could take a step in his development to lock down a Top-6 spot. You also have the guy you take 5th who can join sooner than later.

Small correction PLD is actually closer to 6'4 than 6'2. 6'2 is an old measurement from Juniors. On the NHL website he's listed at 6'4 215lbs

Here is the proposal submitted by the very popular Instagram account, NHL Breakers , which features Pierre-Luc Dubois and Owen Beck .

To Montreal:

- Pierre-Luc Dubois

In Winnipeg:

- 1st choice of the Panthers
- Mattias Norlinder
- Owen Beck

Yea, I looked at his HockeyDB page, which isn't the most reliable when it comes to the size of players. Elite Prospects has him listed at 6'3" & 218 lbs & NHL.com has him listed at 6'4" nd 214 lbs.

Either case, we can agree that's big boy that has skill.

I'm looking at guys who can play in the Top-6 if PLD is in this line-up.
- PLD: 6'4" & 214 lbs
- Dach: 6'4" & 212 lbs
- Anderson: 6'3" & 218 lbs
- Suzuki: 5'11"& 208 lbs (under 6', but a stocky 5'11")

Then you have Slaf, who will eventually be a Top-6 mainstay: 6'3" & 238 lbs.

I'm happy we finally have big player with skill and can skate.

It will help Insulate Caufield and Possibly Michkov one day.

by picking PLD you now have positional luxury at 5 OA. You can splurge on D or Wingers if you're C depth looks like that

I would have been way more aggressive for PLD if we won the lottery. Now that we will have to wait at least 3 years for Michkov/Smith to have an impact, I don't really see why we need to go from being a bottom 5 team to a bottom 8-12 by adding PLD. That being said, if we trade the pick for Keller then I'm all for getting PLD. If HuGo was serious about building the team organically, then there I think we can wait another year to see what happens with PLD.

The only upside to acquiring Dubois now is that your pretty much assured to extend him.

If he goes elsewhere (in a city he deems respectable) and the money is right, I believe he will sign there.

That would be unfortunate but not something to lose sleep over. Realistically he should be like the 4th best forward on a Stanley Cup contender.

Totally.

If they had one the lottery or acquire a player like Keller, sure go for it. Everything you said about the “growing organically” message from Gorton makes sense.

He was tempering expectations because they have a plan in mind and there’s no doubt the media is pushing for an other narrative.

It probably is a better idea to not half ass the rebuild for once, but god damn the thought of a top 6 of:

PLD-Suzuki-CC
Keller-Dach-Anderson

is so damn appealing.
