Considering that he's been a C for almost his entire NHL career including his entire time in Winnipeg I'd say it's not that very debeatable. You may want to play him on the wing but he's going to (rightfully) ask for center money.

Meier is getting winger money.

Fair but also might not be where a team like MTL wants him especially if they feel Dach and Suzuki are distributors. Dubois isnt exactly a play driver and shouldnt pay him as one.

Timo Meier is looking for 9M according to Devils fans on the main board, so anything over 8M for PLD would be an overpayment.

Dubois should cost around the same, if not more, than Meier. Their PPG over their career is near identical, plus Dubois is 2 years younger, can play C and has been better in the playoffs than Meier.

Kevin Fiala got $7.85M last summer after a 85 point season, both Meier/Dubois should be around that range.

All may be true if that is the case it is too rich for what PLD brings. Is he a million better than Suzuki? I think not!

When comparing Dubois’s potential AAV and Suzuki’s current AAV, let’s not forget a crucial element; the number of UFA years bought; Suzuki signed his deal as a RFA, whereas Dubois has only 1 year left under the same status. Hence the reason I wouldn’t necessarily be against a slightly higher AAV for Dubois (max 8.5M!) if the Habs can sign him long term.

Regarding that possibility however, with FLA’s pick falling in the #29-32 range, I hardly see how a deal could be made this summer, unless CGY’s 2025 pick becomes the new main asset going to Winnipeg?

Hopefully, the Habs would lock up both Caufield and Dubois for around 7.85M and this (sustainable) AAV would then become the Habs’ « internal cap » for impactful players.

Detroit had one with Lidstrom as the ceiling.

If the Habs go with depth rather than the superstar approach, they have to make sure the contracts work. Suzuki, PLD, Caufield all under 8 would be a nice start.

Having them under reasonable contracts will help when Dach, Slaf, Michkov(?) are asking for raises.

That is irrelevant. Suzuki signed in a flat cap environment. Dubois is worth whatever a player of his calibre is worth at the time he signs. Now if he is trying to max what he gets he can go somewhere else. If he really wants to play for Montreal he should be willing to accept a fair contact that will allow the Habs to bulid a winner (a la Bergeron).

I'd find it surprising if Harris is the guy the Jets want.

Morrissey, Pionk, Demelo and Schmidt are all 6'0", so adding another D that height would make a very small defense group.

How does acquiring him now ensure a 'reasonable' contract.? If what he really wants is to get paid it'll happen one way or another. I don't get people thinking he'll magically sign a long-term deal for several million less than he'd get by simply playing out his last RFA year.
If this happened it'd be because he wants to play in Montreal, not because we acquired before he becomes UFA.

I have raised this point several times. There never seems to be an explanation for it.

I’m

his last playoffs get overblowned imo. He was awesome against Toronto and very average against Vegas. If not for MAF’s performance we likely don’t get out of that series and he was poor vs Tampa.

He did steal a series though, but hasn’t been able to sustain play at a high level for a long ass time. Several years of ups and downs, mostly due to injuries.
30 straight successful penalty kills from Toronto to Winnipeg to Vegas - much of that was Price.

I can’t say this with certainty but I don’t think cash is going to be the main sticking point for Pierre-Luc Dubois. I think the decision he makes this summer (and next) will be about his lifestyle on and off the ice. He strikes me as a thoughtful, intelligent person who values the life he gets to live away from the rink, too. This includes family time, offseason adventures, restaurants, fashion and more.

I tend to think that Montreal — rumoured to be his ideal home — and other Eastern metropolises like New York are front-runners for his long-term services. I suppose Los Angeles fits some of the priorities I’ve guessed at, although it would be farther from home.

FWIW, Should be noted, PLDs significant other is an American from Michigan

That would suck for Harris. Could have gone UFA and got his choice of teams. Decides to sign with Montreal. Two years later traded to Winnipeg. Ouch.

He's movable for sure. Matheson - Guhle - Xhekaj can be our LD next year. Savard - Barron - Kovacevic RD. We have Hutson coming in at the end of next season too.
