Radek Bonk and Robert Dome also played against men in their draft year. Past history shows us that performing well against men in one's draft year is a very poor predictor of future success.

I agree that there is no way to know. I think that playing in a mens league should not automatically make a prospect ranked higher then others.

Garuntee Mike St. Croix cracks the top 5, look as his statistics, their very low but he lead the team in everything point-wise Goals, Assists and Points. Didn't have anyone to work with so thats why they are low, but if Edmonton has two new good players, he could even lead the WHL in scoring.

1. Larsson
2. Coturier
3. St. Croix
4. Neugent-Hopkins
5. Matt Puempel
6. Brandon Saad
7. Seth Ambroz
8. David Musil
9. Ryan Murphy
10. Victor Rask
11. Duncan Siemens
12. Bonne Jenner
13. Vladislav Namestinkov

Im not as high on him as you but he does have the potential to rise as he hasnt gotten allot of hype on a poor Edmonton team. Having said that there is no way Musil drops that low, he is the safest best of all players not named Larsson to stay in the top 5. I still think he could even challenge Larsson for the best dman or even the first overall pick, though as time goes on its looking more and more like it will be impossible to catch Larsson(not that thats anything to be ashamed off).

I think it has been mentioned countless times that the impressive feat isn't playing in a men's league, it's excelling in a men's league.

There is definately a noticeable difference between someone getting a few minutes on the fourth line and breaking all sorts of rookie-records.

Obviously that isn't all that matters, as every player develops on his own path. Some may stop developing early, others just aren't fitting into the style of a certain league even though they have allstar-like talent, hence not delivering the stats one might expect from him.

When a player does something special in a men's league, and Larsson very much fits that description, you have every reason to put him up a notch.

Why though does this list have Couturier as a left wing?I thought he was a centremen.:help:

I edited the article linked in the first post of this thread in regards to position (and also nationality in the case of Siemens). My sources were Eliteprospects and HockeyDB. So in the case of Couturier, I'll post these links:
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=32885&lang=en
http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=115908

Is Sean actually a centre? I haven't seen him play, so I don't know.

Also, note the conflicting places of birth between these two sources. In my experience, HockeyDB has at times listed where someone grew up instead of where they were born. Does anyone know which source is correct in this case?

Saad is going to be a good one. This is the only prospect that I've actually seen live on this list, albeit it was a few years ago.

I can't wait for the Sadd/Stall mix-ups.

I strongly believe that Adam Larsson is the best 17 year old prospect since Sidney Crosby.

I haven't seen nearly enough of Couturier to get a good read on him but he's impressive.

And... what about Drew Doughty?

If Larsson becomes better than Doughty, he's the next Lidstrom.

But I thought OEL, Hedman, Subban, Carlson, Karlsson, Rundblad, Erixon, Musil, Stralman, Gunnarsson and Hjalmarsson are the next Lidstrom's...? Oh yeah, I forgot that everyone will be the next Lidstrom...

PS Doughty is no longer a prospect, he's played too many NHL games.

Doughty is no longer a prospect, but he's been.... Following the way you think, Crosby can't be insert in FolignoQuantumLeap's comment.

And are you arguing about Doughty? When is the last time you saw a 20yo Dman being finalist for the Norris? When is the last time you saw a 20yo Dman being a top4 for the Canada in the Olympic... on a gold medal team?

For me, he's already the best Dman in the league. I take him over anybody else not named Crosby.

If Larsson is better than him, he's gonna be the next Lidstrom.

If you really want to argue about it... at least... put some arguments in your next post.

Some infos?

He will be playing in Portland next season with the Winterhawks on what should be a very stacked team. Also he should have a chance to play with fellow country man Nino there as well.

As for McColgan I think his major issues are his size and the fact right now he is very much a perimeter player. That is not a bad thing in the WHL as a 16 year old though but if can play more effectively 5 on 5 this upcoming season it will go a long way to showing he can handle the physical side of things

Thanks!

I can't wait for the beginning of the season! I have to admit that I didn't have the chance to watch Larsson play. I'va watch a lot of WJC games... but no Swedes... I didn't have the time to.

Anyone knows if it's possible to watch some SEL on a stream?

You never know...
I'm going to make a prediction here:

Shane McColgan will be in the Top 10 of the 2011 NHL Draft. This kid is the real deal and he will be a steal for any team that takes him.
Size be damned, he is a great hockey player and will make some NHL team VERY happy to have them in their propect pool.

McColgan is a guy I also think could rise. I'm not that down on his size because he does show he can battle through things and as he gets stronger with age he can overcome that deficiency to a degree. Vladislav Namestnikov is also a guy I think can get into that 5-10 discussion. He may not get drafted there but he'll be there in terms of ability to akin to like Tarasenko this year and those who watched him at this year's past U-18 saw a talented scorer.

Someone also mentioned Puempel earlier in this thread and I tend to agree. He's a smart goal-scorer who could have the kind of offensive explosion this year akin to Jeffrey Skinner especially if Ryan Spooner is healthy.

Hmm why no love for "Boom Boom" Jenner?? He could be the fastest riser this year.

I have been lucky enough to watch Jenner play for the past two years, and he is a talented player. I think that players like Puempel, Lessio, Murphy have a higher ceiling. Im not sure if his skating will be good enough to transition to the next level.

I would love to be wrong however.

McColgan seems to be very underrated. He's about same size as Nugent-Hopkins, and had similar stats last season and yet he still gets no respect.

He has gotten some respect, it's rare to see him outside the top 15 it's just Nugent-Hopkins has really explosive tools and McColgan is about a notch below, and that notch makes a difference when evaluating smaller players.

He is not the same size. He is much smaller.

There are some concerns. Number 1 his point production went way down in the playoffs. He was fairly ineffective. Number 2 he was -15 during the season.

His positives, He is a monster already on the powerplay. Has really good vision and the puck does seem to follow him around.

All in all though his first year in the WHL was a great success. I expect him to have a better season this year and Kelowna is a team on the rise.

According to hockeydb McColgan is 5.11 and 170, Nugent-Hopkins is 6.00 and 155. That's pretty much same size.
