so essentially it’s (added the names so it doesn’t confuse me as much) or did I read it wrong:

OTT: JGP
NYI: Stanley, Pettersson, 2 cap dumps (one expiring, one with an additional year)
STL: Eliasson, Perron
Yep, pretty much, just two notes:
- I'm not sure if the Blues would choose to give up Joseph/Texier instead of the 5th
- If NYI doesn't see any value in JBD, Ottawa would probably rather keep him

If it's fire damage prices, Barzal and/or Horvat, Dobson and maybe Nelson to Vancouver.

I'd completely mortgage our short term future for all four.

Elias Pettersson, 2025 1st, 2026 1st (unprotected for both), Willander, Raty (for the poetic irony), Soucy, Ian MacIntyre along with Petey, basically name your picks and prospects, while sparing our roster...I'm overbidding if any of the Islanders guys have smoke damage or got burned, but we need scoring, could use an improvement to our RHD, and need another center.

dafuq?

That would be the goal. We had a horrendous loss last night to the rangers and a bunch of fans are understandably in burn it all down mode, but we have enough pieces with enough value that we shouldn’t be stripping everything to the bone. Plus, the intermittent presence of “good Sorokin” will keep us from ever being truly bad enough to complete a real tank.

It’s not in style to have optimism on the Isles boards right, but our entire defense was decimated for most of the year… like 4 starters out at a time. 2 members of our opening night top line have both missed 60% of the season, and our franchise goalie is coming off of a late offseason back surgery. It’s plausible this is the lowest we will end in the standings for the next few years, so while I want to take advantage of that as much as possible IRT getting assets for aging UFAs, I’m not really trying to deal Barzal.

No retention as he has another year on his deal. We could take a UFA off your hands if he’s expiring this season.
NYI needs a complete retooling of the forwards. That simply doesn’t happen overnight. You need at least 3 high end forward talent to mature before even thinking about being a contender. At that point, Horvat will be washed up and Barzal will be past his prime.

Your best chance is to keep Dobson and Romanov as a base on D (because D takes longer to develop and mature) and trade everyone else who is 25+ for draft capital and NHL ready depth prospects (3rd and 4th liners). Keep Sorokin in net as well. Take on bad short term contracts to fill out holes in the line-up and acquire more draft capital.

Tank for 2 years and draft at least twice top 5. Add to that the multiple mid to late 1st and 2nd rounder you’ll get trading out your current core players now. Develop them properly and add them to an already strong core on the backend and in 3 years top you’re back in the mix with high-end skilled forwards and a good and mature core on D and in net.

At that point patch whatever holes you have left with the remaining draft capital you acquired for taking on bad short term contracts.

I bet the Islanders are buyers... because Lou is gonna Lou, and he ain't getting any younger.

I've mentioned this before, but we can't fully tank. Sorokin is too good (when he's good) and steals too many games. Without the insane run he had before the break we would legitimately be in last in the east right now. So you're sort of forced to try and win during the duration of his contract

By the end of next season the contracts will be up for Nelson, Palmieri, Pageau and Lee will all be up. Hopefully Lou isn't braindead enough to let them walk without returning assets for them, because that should really be a lot. Once they're gone, basically half of our top 9 so the retooling is sort of built in right now - that is, if Lou doesn't bring everyone back.

The remaining 5 there are Barzal, Horvat, Tsyplakov, Holmstrom, and Duclair. At least two of those spots will be replaced internally by Cole Eiserman and Danny Nelson. We will have a top ten pick this year, and that will likely go towards another forward - If we don't trade up for Hagens (LI Native), you're hoping for Desnoyers/McQueen/Frondell, and potentially one of them is up by the start of 26-27 as well.

I think the most likely outcome is that Pelech or Pulock is dealt this offseason for another top 6 player - however, I (and most fans...and our GM) agree that they really need another difference maker up front. We have been historically unable to lure big name FA - This is why you hear whispers of Dobson being dangled for star players. I think it would be the wrong way to go about it, but as it stands that's our clearest route to pick up an impact forward ATM.

What would interest Isles fans from the Flyers for Barzal?
Michkov, that's all

Would adding a second or third get it done
No, we'd get more dealing them individually.

Maybe the Flyers can add a 1st to even it out. Why would the Flyers make or even entertain that as the return?

What would your price for Nelson and Pulock be?
If this was an option, it is something the Jets should definitely be looking at.

We have no interest in trading Barzal, if you glanced over the thread you’d see that. The two teams are in the same division and tied in the standings - they’re probably the worst trade partners you could think of.

The isles should get something around a first and third for Nelson.

We’d be looking for a signed top 6 winger for Pulock. Either that, or an NHL ready prospect.

Something like Lambert, First, third + whoever you need to send back salary wise to take on that 8.4M (assuming we retain half on Nelson)

The Isles should completely start tearing it down. They are arguably worse off and run than Flyers.

Wouldn’t need much retention, if any, as we’ll have 12+m available at the deadline.
