Can't think of any other team, maybe the Sovjets, but no....

I have never seen a team dominate like this.....

Last time this happened it really was the Soviet Union which was in some years the best team on earth, but I didn't believe that we would ever see such domination in the WHC again. This year's Canada has been incredible. Let's hope it's a fluke...

Considering this Canadian team would not be able to play in the NHL due too being waaaaaaay above the salary cap, Its for sure one of the better teams in recent years. If you count player by player they are better then most, if not all NHL teams. If I remember correctly most teams during the NHL lockout was pretty stacked aswell, but im to lazy to find the rosters, but im sure they are out there somewhere.

And its its hard to compare with the old Soviet teams that dominated hockey for so many years. But i think i have to give it to the 70's Soviet teams.

They are easily better than every NHL team.. I don't see how anyone could argue otherwise.

I'd say it's the best unless someone can show another that's been better. 17-0 in goals during the medal round play?

I was bored so I checked the Worlds between 1970-1990. The Soviets won all 10 games in 1973 (100GF-18GA), 1975 (90-23), 1986 (50-15) and 1989 (47-16 ).

Well it wasn't full of NHL players until 1976 so before that I wouldn't even care about. The Canada goals for-against this tourney is 66-15 right now.

After the Olympics and then this, I think the myth that Canada cannot play on the European ice is dead. They outskated and out-skilled everyone they faced.

The problem was when we used to bring a bunch of grinders for a sudden death tournament.

Russia's 2012 team was very good too. I would like to see a Russia 2012 vs. Canada 2015 match. Unfortunately never gonna happen :naughty:

Sochi?

Imagine this team + Keith, Weber, Pietrangelo, Doughty, etc.

Somehow the Sochi team wasn't as showy as this one - played more conservative hockey, deadly clinical, and of course the tournament was of different type. This team really brought to mind the Soviet dominance of the pre-modern era - that was beautiful and supreme hockey too...

uh I'd say that Canada plays better on european ice. you're just stubborn to change it.

I tend to agree. High skilled players shines on the larger rinks. Slow brutes does not. And there is no doubt that this Canadian team have some really good players.

It was a good performance, but they cannot be considered one of the best teams to play in the WC. How can they compare with the great Soviet teams that were probably the best in history? Is Smith close to Tretiak? Are Burns and Hamhuis close to Fetisov and Kasatonov? Do Canada's forwards have chemistry like what was exhibited by Krutov - Larionov - Makarov?

Great performance, good team, best ever from Canada at this tournament. Not close to the best ever.

In terms of sheer offensive firepower, this team was better than any Canadian olympic team since at least 2010 imo. You could argue that guys like Giroux and Seguin should have been on that last olympic team and weren't due to politics.

I've got nothing against this Canada team, I supported them during this tournament, I think that opinion about them being one of the most dominant teams ever may be right, but don't you think that they played with rather average opponents?

Czech? Good team, but with strong limitations in their games in terms of defense and physicality, without offensive upside and regularly in defensive.

Sweden? Disappointing tournament, especially in defense.

USA? Yeah, they were great, played suprisingly good, but had no potential to win a gold. Am I right?

Russia? I think there's no coincidence that they didn't lose a single game in their 08-09-12-14 golden runs, and lost here twice, with USA and Finland.

There's no suprise that Canada B/A team won a gold, I just think if they'd play with Russia from '12 or '14, they still win it, but tournament or final wouldn't be that dominated by one team.

But they were definitely fantastic.

don't know enough about the past teams to comment but this was definitely a dominant performance. i glanced at some european news about the tournament and several have made the cccp comparison and called team canada the new red army.
