People like to slag the Commodore and Cullen deadline but they both played well in the playoffs despite our early exit.

Cullen had 8 points in 6 games in the first round.

I always kind of liked Andy Sutton.

Anyway, those were rentals.

There was also Tyler Arnason, Petr Bondra, Greg De Vries who didn't contribute much at all.

Didn't we get Varada at the deadline one year? He was actually kind of serviceable.

Too early to tell, but it sure looks good so far.

The make or break is Cozens/Norris, notably how the room deals with this.

It's funny to think that after all the horrible hockey we've watched over the years, this is really the first time the core of our team is dealing with someone cherished going out.

Such is life - it's a business, and a game.

Sens got better today, and I'm a Sens fan first and foremost.

Well, there were 2 pretty big trades and the Senators have had their fair share of snoozer TDLs.

Time will tell and I think Sens fans will follow & compare the performances of Norris & Cozens for quite some time I’m sure. We hope for the best obviously.

“Are you an expert?”

What a time to be alive that series was.

It really depends on what we get with Cozens. I’m confident with Zetterlund being a good fit here but I’m also not 100% convinced Cozens will magically return to what he was a few years ago.

Overall I really like the logic applied by Staios and the thought process around the moves, so that’s a positive.

Staios is a good GM. Things won’t always work out with the players you bring in but the way he structures his decisions, who he moves, who he targets is miles ahead of what we’ve had in the past. Really looking at it since last offseason he’s rounded out the roster very sharply.

The first round in the playoffs is normally very physical. Now we don't have worry every time Norris steps on the ice and can enjoy the games if we make it.

I have a feeling that Batherson will play physical more often now that he's not worried about Norris' health, and if the other team would counter it with their own physical guys.

Tkachuk-Cozens-Batherson could be a very nice line in round 1.

The upgrade from Gregor/Ostapchuk to Zetterlund more than makes up for the potential downgrade from Norris to Cozens for this year's roster, and in the longer run things will depend on how Norris' shoulder holds up.

I'm still sad that Norris is gone, especially given how much chemistry his line (finally!) showed in that last game against Chicago. I'm amazed at how productive Norris ended up being this year for us despite his hesitancy at using his lethal one-timer. When he used it, it worked even though it didn't look as deadly as it used to. If he can get back to his pre-injury form, we might regret the deal, but conversely if his shoulder becomes a problem again, we'll be relieved he's another team's problem.

Also, I just don't know enough about Cozens to properly judge the deals. But all he needs to be for us is someone who belongs in our top 6 in some capacity or another (centre? winger with a shot? dude who learns to use his size AND has puck-handling skills?). In that case, next year between Cozens, Tkachuk, Stutzle, Batherson, Perron, Zetterlund, Greig and Amadio we have 8 guys our of our top 9 figured out, AND we may still have room for Giroux if we want to bring him back.

Crazy that this was a trade deadline deal that not only improved our team for the short term but may also have extended the window of contention (or at least window for making it to the playoffs) of this core by a year or two. How often does this happen?

The Bondra deadline was huge. It didn't end up working out as he never found his grove, but the fanbase went absolutely ballistic when they traded for him.
