Hi

I don't know how up to date these figures are, but according to www.statmuse.com

Leafs have a points % of 0.634 without Matthews playing and only 0.462 without Marner playing

One of the weirder stats is that the PK is 81% without Matthews who doesn't PK

Also one needs to use the Teams Points % as a comparison

Without Bergeron the Bruins have Point % of .608 which translates into 100 point season [99.7]

Without Ovechkin the Capitals have Point % of .571 = 94 point season [93.6]

haha - I have no relationship to Marner - I like all three players listed - it is a small sample size but only a point % of .462 and 83 goals for and 92 against without Marner should raise some eyebrows

my question does imply a psychological aspect, for example, when Matthews isn't playing the team may think they will score less goals so they have to be better at preventing them especially on the PK

I was unable to find any info but I wonder what Tampas' record is without Hedman

IMHO, if you really want to see a comparative value of players, you take their annual cap hit and divide it by their total points, i.e., the Moneyball-type approach.

I should have mentioned that the Table shows games played without each player in the lineup

Also, the PP is better without Marner and a lot worse without Reilly

The Moneyball-type approach has limitations especially with defensemen as well as defensive forwards like Danault in last years playoffs

Without Backstrom the Capitals have Point % of .608 = 100 point season [99.7]
compared to
Without Ovechkin the Capitals have Point % of .571 = 94 point season [93.6]

I found this to be interesting
Nick Lidstrom
with Lidstrom a point % of .665
without Lidstrom a point % of .443

Does anyone has the stats with/without for Sundin and or Gilmour? TIA

Meh... many missing variables such as who else is missing during those games, what time of year they were missing etc. Fans in the stands vs out of stands etc, length of layoffs with COVID etc.

I think this team would be better with a V on Matthews chest... he's a proud guy and I think he'd be yelling at people like Ovechkin does if he was the undisputed leader. He already did it with Holl. Tavares probably is afraid to make eye contact with Holl on the same play. Ridiculous that Matthews is rotating an A - Ridiculous.

I like that Marner has missed the fewest amount of games...that's about the extent of it without accounting for other factors (other players missing, different seasons, etc.).

Not about any specific player but it suggests to me something I've often mused. Wins are largely a team achievement and the superstar players are overpaid in terms of their actual percentage contribution to a team's achievement. Not saying you can get away with paying the superstars less as the market largely dictates this. Teams can struggle when key lesser players are lost to injury. Subtracting Kampf and Kerfoot together could have as much of an impact as losing one of Marner, Tavares, Matthews or Nylander.
