Speculation: Is there a team in the NHL that would trade for Marner and take his full contract ?

yes... Every fan base has a Whipping boy and MM is the leafs.

MM is 5th in pts in the nhl over the past 3 years. 7pts behind Matthews. The guy is a good player--but the leafs have 3 players on 10mill + and that is a problem--when all 3 are FWDS that is a bigger problem

Very few teams can afford that cap hit which would also entail sending back top assets
you will be sending top assets and contracts back

That's a lot of cap to give to a soft, one-dimensional scorer. I don't think he's worth the caphit and without Matthews he would be even more exposed.

Lol. Not sure what you mean by one-dimensional. Marner averages 2 minutes per game on the PK over the last three seasons while scoring at a 90+ pt rate.

I would imagine plenty of teams would be interested. The issue would be trying to do it in the season since so many teams are capped out but this summer it would probably be easier to find a taker and not have to worry as much about a limit to the field of teams able to make the move happen.

Canucks probably would but I doubt a deal gets done cause other teams could offer more. It would have to be like Marner is disgruntled and publicly demands a trade but then says he only wants to play on the West Coast or something... but even then I think the other West Coast teams could offer better packages. Canucks would probably offer something around JT Miller, Rathbone, Lekkerimaki... have to use the Tkachuk deal as a template for something like this.

Let's see
Marner 10.9

Cal 5
Walker 2.65
Ardvidsson 4.25

=11.9

Sure, maybe even upgrade Walker to Durzi at 1.7 to even it up.

So far two fans have undervalued Marner completely. He’s overpaid undoubtedly but the Leafs aren’t the same without him.

Tavares is the issue as discussed above but he’ll be an issue until his contract matures. He’s got all the control and he’ll never move his NTC. The Leafs asking is an awful move that would send a bad msg to FAs about TO so even discussing a Tavares move makes no sense.

The Leafs just have to wait for the cap to increase heavily. They really can’t do much this season with the way the teams built

Picks and prospects would also be involved in these deals, including very good ones, but that isn't the important thing to focus on in this thread.

These are legitimately crazy and a lot of them wouldn't happen, but what the heck.

BUF - Skinner, Jokiharju and Peterka / Krebs for Marner and Muzzin
DET - Vrana, Hronek, Suter and Edvinsson / Kaspar for Marner, Engvall, Holl
FLO - Ekblad, Duclair, Bobrovsky for Marner, Muzzin, Murray
NJD - Marino, Graves, Tatar, Wood, Johnsson (@50%), Holtz / Mercer, Blackwood for Marner, Sandin, Holl, Aston-Reese, Simmonds, J Anderson, Murray

I'm too lazy to keep going, but yeah, you can make these for a lot of teams, if you just assume there will be all kinds of picks and top prospects and such involved as well.

Again, because a lot of people on this site cannot or will not read, these are not trade proposals, because there would also be picks and prospects involved, including 1sts and blue chips possibly, so don't attack these trades for being terrible value. You don't know the value because you don't know the full trade.

By who?

I am not debating Marner is a very good RW, a top 5 RW… a very good player in general, but I contest he would not be the consensus best RW in the game two years running.
Whoever votes on End of Season All-Star awards. I believe its the PHWA.
