Doughty is Canada's MVP thus far, wheeling through (admittedly not as strong) defenders and proving an offensive juggernaut.

Carter is absolutely killing it and showing great chemistry with Doughty.

Kopi is winning games.

Some have said the Kings system has limited Doughty's offensive potential.

Are we stronger without it?

At this point, who cares! DL is not going to touch Sutter...and will let him sink with this ship if need be.

The players have to get themselves out of it, that's DL's mentality....so get over it.

I don't have an understanding of how the playing systems in the Olympics differ
from the system The Kings play.

IMO, that would be a key to gaining some understanding here.

Anybody have a clear understanding of the difference?

Well I see Carter in the slot a lot and I see forwards moving through the slot a lot drawing opposing players to them hence giving Doughty more room to work with. So I think it's both the coach and the Kings.

while i think we have systemic issues, i think it's over simplifying the problem by saying it's only that. Carter and Doughty are playing with way more skill on their line then normal. It is the Canadian olympic team after all

I think the thing we are missing here is strength of opponent and resources.

We aren't playing teams with rosters of assistant coaches and scouts breaking down our system and picking apart our goalie/team weaknesses and holes.

Secondly, if they did, they simply do not have the skill set to take advantage of that.

If we don't play the system all the fans like to complain about we would have no chance against teams like Chi Stl Ana or SJ.

The biggest difference is that teams play to win.
Sutters style is playing not to lose....

This a huge difference maker

You make it sound like we're Edmonton.

No not at all we have our strengths and goalie, defense and up the middle are the strengths. If we tried to skate with the fast skating teams and play an open up n down game we would struggle. Playing our "system" gives us a chance to do well and makes us very tough in the playoffs and for that I will take the ups n downs of the regular season cause it only matters how you perform in May and June.

I think you pretty much nailed it. All we have to do is trade for Crosby, Toews, and Perry and pretty much all of our problems will be solved. :D

Threads like this crack me up.

Playing a system that feeds our strength made us winning the cup.
We played fast paced, monster fore check, creative hockey.

When adapting to the Murray 2.0 system problems started.
And when honest we all know where this leads.
So why not cut the drama and continue playing our best hockey.

If that means Lombardi has to go with Sutter so be it

That and play teams that are the quality of Austria, Norway, etc.

So when Kings players put up goals and assists against teams like that it can be overlooked? What does that say for guys like Perry, Parise, Crosby, Ovechkin, etc. who are having meh to awful performances against these same teams?

We have world class talent, and they are being limited in our system. I also think it's ridiculous to say that if we open up the system a little that we would turn into the Oilers, that's pure insanity

Might be the place to add this ? ...

Which NHL teams have been the best represented so far in Sochi?

#1. The LA Kings

The last two years is been obvious that the Los Angeles Kings are a team built for the playoffs. So it really comes as no surprise that Kings players are dominating the Olympics. Dustin Brown, Jeff Carter, Anze Kopitar, Drew Doughty, and Slava Voynov have so far accounted for 14 points between the five of them and are a whopping +18 in the tournament to date. And Jonathan Quick? He is only 2-0 with a 1.44 goals-against average .944 save percentage.

Quick, Kopitar, and Doughty have been absolutely huge for their teams to date.

Is it any wonder why the LA Kings are the team in the west which no one wants to play in the playoffs? This team is built for the playoffs and the regular season really couldn't matter less.

I don't think it says that much either way. Too many moving parts to everything to narrow it down to one answer for this or that.

It matters a ton if we don't even make the playoffs
:shakehead yeah, yeah ...

Posters around here said the SAME THING in 2011 ... we made the Playoffs !

Posters around here said the SAME THING in 2012 ... we won the Cup !

Posters around here said the SAME THING in 2013 ... we went to the Conference Finals and lost to the eventual Cup Winner, not the worst way to Defend our Title !

Posters around here are saying the SAME THING in 2014 ... we WILL make the Playoffs !

The Kings haven't missed the playoffs yet. When they do, then you worry about it. If there's ever been a Kings team that has earned the benefit of the doubt, it's this one.

AMEN ! :yo:

Bigger Ice surface= more room to make skilled plays. World class line mates.

Canada and the USA have not faced a stiff defense yet (Russia was a little soft).

Babcock's system is not that much different from the Kings, It's centered around puck possesion and speed through middle ice.

Blysma's is more of the Hawks system, up tempo , speed outside, run teams out of the rink.

If you don't like the Kings system as a Kings fan, you are in for some boring hockey the next two years.

Cause Lombardi is not getting fired and this is exactly how he wants HIS team to play.

If he fired Sutter, he would replace him with a Sutter clone.

Wow your dreaming Lombardi is going nowhere he is by miles and it's not even close the best GM the Kings ever had. The system the DS has the kings play works when we get the two man hard for check going to control the puck but most everyone that has played the games know you can't play like that over 82 games. So we get some ups n downs in the reg season as long as they are on their game when the playoffs come around we're good, so far DS is 2 for 2 with having them ready I will take my chances with that happening again. Remember it's long term success not what have you done this week.

Drew Doughty is playing with Vlasic...not Muffin.

And he's really the only one that seems to be doing more than what's been done lately.

Carter by and large has been a consistent scorer this season.
Kopitar too.

Quick? Was playing well before the break.

Voynov seems to be doing well, but he's not top pairing, iirc.

Brown's still Brown.
