I know that Finland is hosting the 2024 IIHF Under 18’s but at one point in the IIHF’s future events section, they had Slovakia listed as an applicant for the 2025 tournament and no other applicants listed. Does anyone know if the likelihood is that they’ll receive the tournament?

Thanks…

Is Slovakia equipped to handle such a tournament? It's a fairly big event.
It is probably the smallest event of the main ones...

U20 at Xmas
Hlinka

U18 in April.

Slovakia has hosted Skodas and Hlinka's with no problems. I'm sure they've got this.

It is definitely bigger than the Hlinkas. The Hlinka is a small tournament that is run over a short period of time in the summer.

They are both small... few more matches at U18 because they have 10 teams instead of 8 and a quarterfinal. Average attendance is roughyl 25% higher for the Hlinka. Those are this years U18 and Hlinka stats.

I think in U18 they will wait for the results of the previous tournament before the next host is officially announced - taking account potential relegations etc.

Not saying that Slovakia being relegated would be likely - although that did happen in 2019.

So basically Slovakia got pushed back a year by the US…..Ultra lame….I wanted them to host the IIHF Under 18 tournament in the spring and the Gretzky Hlinka tournament in the summer for once…
