I find it a bit concerning that a guy widely regarded as the clear #1 player in his draft class is still unable to make his NHL team and now he’s assigned to an affiliate again.

Are the Kraken trying their best not to rush him or there’s a legitimate concern his development is behind the schedule ?

The moment I watched his pre-draft interview when the rankings were finalized and they asked him about being ranked #1 and he said "I deserve to be drafted 1st OA" I knew he would never make it. Completely wrong attitude. Similar to many other players who came before him who thought their talent guaranteed them success because it has to that point. A failure of his mentors around him.

Simon Nemec and Logan Cooley are better than Slafkovsky and Wright. I dunno if Wright is a product of Seattle being loaded at center, but if he can't make a case to play this season (or next season), then yeesh. Slafkovsky also isn't doing much better. Don't flex Habs fans, you picked the wrong slovak.

To be succesful you have to have confidence in yourself and believe that you are the best or near the best. Most athletes and musicians feel the same way, but hockey players have been trained to be humble. Saying that you knew he would never make it for having conifidence and saying what probably 75% of people felt is kind of weird. Saying you deserve to be drafted number 1 is not the same as saying talent is guaranteed.

At the time saying you deserve to be number one isn't wrong. What is wrong is training kids to be so humble and polite that every interview is just filled with tthe same old cliches that are repeated over and over. Very rare does a hockey player act like themselves and speak whats on their mind during an interview and is probabyl why hockey players are some of the most boring interviews out of ALL famous people.

Just don’t think he’s all that good.

And clearly has an attitude. Guy was a high level junior player and seemingly thinks he is entitled to be a high level NHL player

I mean…he’s so good he had to be let out of the OHL early. Where he scored 3 points in 4 playoff games and his team went home in round 1.

What more could he possibly have to learn?
