Looking at his stats so far in 7 games looks to be extremely pedestrian at best. It seems as though his play has gotten progressively worse over the last two years. Did the Kings make a mistake drafting him so high?

Is Lafreniere? He had 2 more pts last season than Byfield.

From Puck Podcast, Eddie said that for now he is on the wing after initial games at center but from what he knows will be returned to center later in the season since Turcotte is having a good season so far in the middle.

Byfield has time still.

He's gotten progressively better, not worse, over the last two years, but his heralded emergence as a star was a bit premature. He benefitted by playing with Kopitar and Kempe last year and, unsurprisingly, he's not having the same success away from them this season (while they're having similar success with a new kid, Lafferiere, who was taken a few rounds later). I'm sure that he'll eventually get going as the team gets going, but that's the thing. He still isn't a difference maker, and you hope for that from a #2OA pick. He can still get there, though. He's improving. It's just happening more slowly than a lot of us hoped, even knowing that he'd be a late bloomer.

Do you not know what bust means? 20 goals at 21 years old isn't a bust. He could settle in as a pedestrian 50 point forward for the rest of his career and that still isn't a bust. Get out of here with that kind of thing.

You can argue draft position if you want. But I'd still argue his draft position was fine. He's on pace career wise with lots of other players taken in the 1st round his year.

Not a bust. He’s clearly an NHLer. But he’s not going to be a difference maker. He’s just one of those many middle six forwards that can be tossed into a blender.

Had 55 points as a 21 year old last year. Looked good in the limited games I saw him in.

Maybe the expectation that a young player is going to set the world on fire at a young age is unreasonable.

While the thread is ridiculous, the fact that I register the first mention of the fantastic Puck Podcast in here, makes it worthwhile…
