I feel the overall impression is Matthews still isn’t 100% healthy from his surgery.

Was there any reason given why his surgery was so late in the offseason ?

Any know exactly what the surgery was ?

They waited so long to try to avoid surgery, was not healing on its own though.

Looks like a timing issue more than anything to me.

He'll get it back.

There are nights when he doesn't seem quite dialed in. I'm not sure if the wrist is a distraction or if it's simply a timing issue. Only he would know that and I guess he'll have to work through it.

Doesn’t seem to have the same overpowering speed on his shot which overpowered goalies especially up high.

For me the question is how long till his wrist is completely healed.
Right now he is fumbling with the puck and missing with with his passing.
And slapshots instead of that deadly wrister, so he’s way off.

He doesn’t seem he normal self early in the season but I think that is normal for someone coming off surgery and missing camp.

Doesn’t seem like anything to be overly concerned with ….Another month or two he will be back at the top of the goal scoring leader race.

If it was just his wrist it wouldn't be as concerning.. it's things like throwing a no look pass to no one in the slot late in a tied game. That can't happen, it was not just sloppy but reckless and almost led to a dangerous chance against.

There are some bad habits creeping in that we haven't seen in years past. That's on Keefe and Matthews to iron out.

Yeah, I know they are winning but this is what Keefe preached last year.. process over results. And I'm not seeing the Stanley Cup habits ATM.

Given the construction of this team leafs can't afford to have Matthews and Marner off their game. They both have more to give.

I think one problem is his slap shot is not that great but he keeps trying it, especially on PP. He whiffs on a lot of his one timers, I'm wondering if its cause his stick seems fairly long, idk if thats true or not.

His bread and butter has always been his quick release, powerful and accurate wrist shot.

I personally think his wrist is permanently damaged and it will never be back to what it was. He is still amazing, but it has taken it's toll. I remember his 4 goal debut versus Ottawa .. and it is just not the same wrist anymore. A broken vase can be glued back together and still be beautiful, but it will never be what it once was. This is just my theory and I love Matthews. From my personal experience - I broke my nose and it is still ****** up and I know it will never be the same again ... and I loved my nose.

Don't know about that.

Oilers PP is so good this season that Draisaitl is going to feast off it.
