Its a freebie simply because Skinner was in net?

I hope you dont have any previous posts in June going on about how the Oilers finally have their #1 goalie.
I think Skinner's fine but he's definitely not a top tier goalie.

But yes, you are correct. It was an awful goal to give up.

Generally, yes. Especially if it was unscreened. There was a reason he was pulled after the first period.

It was a quick shot through a defender. Skinner even tried to look around him and by the time he saw it, it was too late.

Far from a "freebie" IMO.

He's clearly looking at him. It was a terrible goal, even his coach said so.

He shot the puck between a defenders legs to get the 5-hole goal on the goalie, how is that not a screened shot?
See above.

BS...1) not every goal needs to be bardown snipes anyway 2) it was actually a pretty decent play, give it a shot, see if you can catch the goalie thinking you are going to pass across like you typically would on PP.

I tell my son all the time to stop doing what he does. He holds on to the puck too long looking to get wide open shots (so get around D that are in the way, etc.). I tell him, stop it, shoot between the D's legs as that is going to give you a better chance to score anyway....getting wide open gives the goalie a better look.

Either way...are we going to recast the scoring list to start measuring how good we think each point was?

Points are points, it was still a brutal goal to give up. Even the oilers homer broadcast said as much. That’s how you know it was bad.

I mean if people want to play that game, Blackwood was playing his second game in a back to back so that means none of draisaitl's goals count because they were "freebies" due to a tired goalie.

Just give it to Quinn Hughes. Nobody has come close to his impact for his team this year. If that's the true criteria then it's not even close.

I think it’s been proven year in year out that it’s not the true criteria. If it was, Kucherov would have won last year.

How so? I think the Mac had the superior on ice vs. off ice impact on his team vs. Kucherov. I.e. he made his team better at ES than Kucherov did. And Mac definitely gets edge in intangibles/leadership, at least in the eyes of the Hart voters.

Yeah....but that's not what he was talking about....think others were just pointing to points production vs. next highest on the team....Kucherov last year....Hughes this year for example. Voters do look at that for sure (put too much weight on it in my opinion without considering the rest of the team), but it's definitely not the most important thing as McDavid would never have won otherwise, or Draisaitl, or Crosby, or most people that play with top teams in the league.

Does Kucherov have a chance again this year?

Is dude to the point of getting overlooked due to always being great, not likeable, already won everything, Russian, blah blah blah?

He should but probably won’t. He put this Tampa team with no scoring beyond the second line on his back once again. He has the highest point per game ratio in the league. He is 5 points behind the league’s top scorer with 6 less games played. His playing style is so unique and so unlike anybody else. When he is on the ice his team mates get an instant level up.

He is the less sexy pick for various reasons though. Not really marketable since he doesn’t give a shit about that kind of stuff (see last ASG). His game doesn’t rely on speed, power moves or fancy stick handling. He plays a cerebral game mastering prediction, perception and perfect timing - often times without moving an inch. And well, he’s Russian which is a factor whether we like it or not.
