Is Krug/McAvoy a viable pairing?

So I would prefer to keep Chara and Carlo together as the shutdown pair (rather than have McAvoy get the matchups Chara gets and neuter him offensively).

Is Krug McAvoy a viable pairing? Enough pucks to go around? Enough D zone ability for when they are forced to play D?

I think... maybe. Josi/Ellis seems to work. But, Ellis is better in his own zone than Krug and Josi is a vet, where as McAvoy has half a dozen games under his belt.

Don't know but I sure would like to find out. In theory they could be possession monsters, especially with Bergeron line.

Yes. I think McAvoy can be every bit as good as Kevan or Adam in his own end when it's all said and done and Krug can play with both of them.

The offensive capability is there. That pairing would also have great mobility. I'm not so sure how great defensively they would be though. Like you mentioned, Krug is average defensively. If McAvoy continues to develop into the #1D we think he can be, then I don't see a problem with this pairing down the line. For next season, they could very well struggle in the defensive end.

If anyone who has watched BU hockey and has watched the Grzelcyk - McAvoy pairing can chime in, that would be great. It may give us some insight in how a potential Krug - McAvoy pairing could look.

Of course it's viable. But it would be much more brilliant to have them on separate pairs for a more sustained attack. Our number one priority this summer should be finding McAvoy a strong LHD presence in his own zone to protect the house. Like Methot is to EK65.

Alzner is that guy.

We already know all about Krug. McAvoy has played only 5 NHL games. Although he seems like a lock for a roster spot, isn't it a little early to be pairing him with Torey? A season under the tutelage of Chara will help determine where he fits in going forward. In 2018-2019 he could be mentoring Zboril or Lauzon.

Carlo has graduated from Prof. Chara's class and is ready to take his spot on Torey's starboard.

So would you rather give McAvoy the tough Chara's minutes and give Carlo Krug's offensive zone starts?

With Z anchoring the D, Charlie Mc is free to wheel his skills in the offensive zone. He also has speed to recover and help back in his end.

Carlo will support Krug's puck-moving talent, providing solid protection for Torey. Branden has learned his lessons well.

McAvoy and Krug would make for a dynamic PP.

It's the third pairing that is still not clear, especially with the upcoming expansion draft.

I think Chara and Carlo should be the first pair . I would like to see McAvoy play with K Miller provided Miller is still a Bruin on opening night .

Think it would work eventually 5on5, but splitting them up would be better.

Now on the PP it should be magical. McAvoy to Krug for the one timer. Krug should work on his shot all summer long because he's going to get some sweet ass passes next year.

I agree.

It would solidify the d core for this season and going forward as Chara is eventually phased out and McAvoy and Carlo continue to develop.

But there are still holes in the top 6 and 9 that need to be repaired as another thread discussed.

In short, I think this really rides on Krug. I get he is what he is (an offensive defensemen who at times gets pushed around in his own zone), but they're paying him top 4 money and really need him to step up and make whoever is in his pairing in the top four look good if they are serviceable themselves.

But again...
Chara- Carlo/McAvoy
Alzner- Carlo/McAvoy
Krug- K miller/McQuaid/C Miller whoever is left.

When all is said and done is the keywords for me. I'd rather insulate mcavoy at first so he can get comfortable in the NHL. By year 2 or 3 I'd think that'll be a good pair

biggest value on the PP in my opinion is it takes a forward off the point for at least one unit. I`ve never been a fan of a forward playing taking a D spot on the PP

normally I would totally agree with you and this may very well happen but I can see a kid like McAvoy benefitting initially from that "insulation" but I see him as a kid who can play, will play alot and not hurt the team in very short order.

Personally I would try Krug McAvoy as the first pair and have chara Carlo as the second pair to reduce z's minutes and give Carlo better match ups

Unless Charlie gets a concussion over the summer and forgets who he is, he showed me that he can handle first pairing minutes and gameplay. I say place them there until they prove otherwise
