But anyway, no I don't think losing him had a huge impact. What we're seeing now is a result of injuries, lack of forward depth, overrated D, and reading too many press clippings.

Keith Acton is now an assistant with the Edmonton Oilers. How is his motivation working there?

Indeed ... and many people were ranting about how good that team could be this year, what with all the young talent and such.

That doesn't mean he didn't have some repoire with our guys that he doesn't have yet in EDM. I'm not saying he is the missing piece, but I do think he had a positive effect from behind the bench....so did Prospal imo.

I still hold that Dan Hinote is a problem. Don't know why I believe that, but I do (not really). It's been a running joke between my friends and I for the past couple of years since he was coaching from the press box and I'd make comments like "everyone can see there's dysfunction down on the ice except apparently him."

It wasn't be but somebody asked about Keith Acton in today's dispatch chat. Makes me wonder if some of the lacking motivation going around could be due to him being missing. I don't know much about the coaches and their personalities but it sounds like Acton could have been the bad cop and Richards the good cop. Not sure how Hartsburg falls into that scenario. Has any coach been the bad cop until Richards said he would have to be?

No, Acton was named associate coach of the Oilers. Craig Hartsburg is the associate coach for the Blue Jackets. So, Acton moved for a promotion. There has been some talk that, yes, they do miss Acton in the dressing room. That guy would wrestle a grizzly if it looked a him the wrong way. He's a tenacious SOB, and I mean that in a good way.

Edmonton's coaching staff may not last the season and given that they still haven't hired Acton's replacement, maybe Acton coming back isn't out of the question.
I'm not sure I buy the everything that Portzline says but our penalty kill sure misses him.

Yeah we're really missing Acton. Look at the great work he's doing in Edmonton with the help of that excellent staff.

True but it's hard to discern how much an impact an associate coach has on a team.
Maybe Acton had a really positive impact here but Dallas Eakin is a bad coach so Acton's contribution in Edmonton isn't as much? Not the best way to state my thought process, but it's something along those lines.

I don't necessairly see the Oilers trying to preach a hard working style and effort. I don't exactly follow the Oilers much but when you have #1 draft picks for the last several year and spent it trying to rebuild the 1980's Oilers teams they certainly aren't trying to play the same game the CBJ are.
If the coaching staff is trying to coach a hard working style that might exactly be why it isn't working. Apples and oranges. While Acton left for a promotion, he might not be as good of a fit for the makeup of the Oilers as he was here.
