Now this is something that has really been eating away at me with the fallout of the Kyle Beach accusations taking the league by storm. Toews has always had this aurora around him as a “great leader” who “knows how to win” and was a top 100 player because of that and blah blah blah.

I have to say it, the guy is one of the most spineless and absolutely pathetic leaders this game has ever seen. Now I never had anything against the guy before these last few days, but how can you be the captain of a team and do nothing while you KNEW what was going on? Idc that he was only 22 (which btw wtf he was a full grown ass adult), your complacency played a role in some sick mfer being left off Scott free to hurt more innocent people.

f*** you and kane and whoever other piles of garbage were on that team. I hope with every fibre these guys never touch the HOF and are booed in every arena until the day they retire. I sure as hell will when they come to Calgary.

"I don't know who the player (that talked to The Athletic) is, but it kind of annoyed me because it seemed like it fed the fire a little bit," Toews said. "When that player commented that everybody on the team knew, that wasn't true. As far as I know, some guys may have caught whispers of it and some guys were clueless until the next year. I don't think that was an accurate statement."

Inb4 lock... but...

Thinking Kane and Toews didn't know what was going on when Daniel Carcillo on the opposing Flyers knew it during the 2010 finals. Miss me with that.

Well Messier is also portrayed as a great leader and captain and he did ruthless and dangerous hits to injure opponents. This is a different issue obviously. But look at how Messier is viewed then watch a tape on his worst hits.

That post game interview was a big yikes

Hopefully Team Canada doesn’t even consider adding this pos to the roster

would be easy to leave him off the team. there are plenty more talented players available...

say you only consider him as a centre, then ahead of him right now are more then enough that he should not be considered based on recent performance, nvm the Chicago debacle. it would be quite a strange decision to take him given the current situation.

McDavid
MacKinnon
Crosby
Sheifele
ROR
Bergeron
Couturier

maybe a couple more? RNH Barzal Tavares

Different topic for a different time, but my dad lived in Edmonton in the 80s and did not think highly of him. Never met the guy, but his reputation to a lot of ppl isn’t great either.

I’d sooner put tanner glass on the roster tbh.

That statement by Toews was completely embarrassing, and I've always thought he was thoroughly overrated as a player. So I wouldn't mind some more negativity going his way.

Even so, I'd say that this sort of a thing or at least things adjacent to it are / have most likely been very prevalent in hockey and so it's a bit out of proportion to focus only on this. And also, I think there's overly much criticism towards people who actually had no part in it. Indeed, they probably should have done something, but I'd say that a public lynching party is still out of proportion. Similarly, if one sees a kid on their class get bullied they probably should do something, but most just will not. People tend to just focus on themselves and what's in front of them.

Brutally honest answer?

We’re probably underestimating some much bigger pieces of shit whose darkest moments stayed hidden.

Bobby....Hull

EDIT: For kids who don't know hockey history, Bobby Hull used to beat his wife like it was it was his PreGame ritual: Nap, pre-carbing meal, beat Joanne till she was unrecognizeable. and he has a frigging statue in front of the arena.
