Its time to shit or get off the pot. Pitt and NYR are right back on our asses in the standings a week after we finally opened up some breathing room, and we're not playing anywhere near good enough to think our lead is safe.

The 2010 Caps were an absolute powerhouse going into the playoffs and went up 3-1 on Montreal before the wheels fell off. I dont think we're anywhere near that now.

Passion aside, I am not for over-reacting to a funk because all teams have them. However, they way we are losing is extremely irritating. I cant quite place it but something is fundamentally off.

I want nothing to do with a rental, mainly because I am not fully convinced this team really has the makeup to go toe to toe with Florida, Tampa, Toronto, or Colorado over a 7 game series, and I think a rental would be just pissing assets away.

But I am more convinced now than ever that the time where we use the assets we've collected to take a big swing to bring in an elite player via trade is rapidly approaching, if not already here. If we aren't ready to go toe to toe with the elites, we're damn close, and that might be one of the only ways to push us over the edge. And we have the assets to pull it off.
