How about if there's no more than 2 teams between us and a playoff spot, we can start to take it seriously?

To quote Daniel Alfredsson: “Probably not”.

These games are far from meaningless though. They are not playing the parts of spoilers, they are finally looking to play like world beaters. They should focus on improving every game, one game at a time. I am just happy to be finally enjoying hockey this season and am optimistic about this team growing into a perennial playoff team. Every game should be treated as a playoff game in the remaining schedule.

I mean... It's not a complete impossibility.

But realistically they've dug themselves too big of a hole to get out of. Even at their current rate of play, it's not enough. They would need to go on an absolute tear.

Which, if I'm being fair, this team has shown glimpses of maybe being capable of lately. They're .750 in the last 10. They've dominated long stretches of play in multiple games, held good teams to low shot counts and you can see how their style of play has changed to get these results.

My take is that I'm just happy to be watching good hockey for a change.

Sens have 18 road games and 9 home games left in the season. Their schedule will not be easy with all of those road games.

The Hamburgler run started at this exact point in the season in 2015 when we were 10 points out with 27 games to play. That year we finished with 99 pts.

When we win our games in hand we are starting this year only 8 pts out and we have the benefit of one remaining game vs TB, so 6 points out after the games in which we control our destiny.

If TB goes a hypothetical 13-9 down the stretch the cut off will be 95 pts. We need to jump teams yes but for WAS (next best team by P%) to push the cut off to 96 pts they would need to go 17-8-1.

As it stands right now we look ok in the RW tie breaker and quite good in the ROW tiebreaker.

Claude Giroux has a connection to the Hamburgler run in that he missed the final shootout attempt for Philly and so was directly responsible for us clinching a playoff birth in that matinee game to end the regular season in 2015. Claude Giroux is thus obviously destined to clinch for us this year in the final game by scoring the GWG in a shootout vs Boston.

I can't believe we are all going to get to witness this.

5. Tampa played 60 pts 69

7. Ottawa Sens. Played 55 pts 53
No it's not. The league f***ed this team in every way possible this year. How long the sale took ruined this season. The Pinto suspension was pathetic. Atleast they're playing the right way

To get to 93 pts, which is likely the bare minimum to make the playoffs, we need 40 in the last 27 games, so about a 121 pts pace. Basically we have to play at a presidents trophy pace, that's possible but the kind of lightning in a bottle long shot that it might as well not be.

We'd need:
A: to play at the best pace we have all season for longer than we have at any point this season
B: get solid goaltending for a sustained period
C: stay healthy
D: hope none of the other teams currently ahead of us also playing well.

Only way it can happen is if the other teams lose traction and go on losing streak the way the Sens did for the first couple of months. My vote is No. Again.

NHL knew the Sens own the Leafs... had to make sure we don't ruin Austin 's playoff run...

Of course we are going to make the playoffs, this is the Ottawa Senators, it’s what we do.

just seeing how they play, when they show up I haven’t seeen them outplayed at all in the month of February.

if they show up for the next 27 games we make the playoffs, and they will show up for every game
