His peak from (2008-12) was above average (8-12), but thanks to injuries, he's now he's just average, though he's played well this year.

Yes, he's average and would look above average on a better team. I don't think anyone has considered him elite except maybe a couple people who overrated him after his Conn Smythe win. That said, he has proven he can play in the playoffs, and perform well if he has a team around him. I would be happy with him as my goalie.

I think hes been burned out because of how bad the team in front of him has been for years. Even with bad teams in front of him he still was able to, when healthy, post 30+ win seasons and never had more loses than wins. He has played 60-70 game seasons for the majority of his career on some really bad teams. He has only seen the playoffs twice, but has a cup and a conn smyth.

If he had the benefit of playing in front of a team like Quick, Rask or Rinne, I dont think he is called average at best, mediocre, washed up etc. But, then again who knows........ he might be done and just an average goalie.

Below average.

He has one great regular season performance (10-11) but the rest are not pedestrian at best.

Ward is stealing Jimmy Howard's thunder. The apparent king of mediocrity. Average at best on a good team. Below average on a bad team.

These are all Howard's tags, HFboards! Give Ward something else!

In 2009, on HF at least, people were calling he top 10: AKA borderline elite.

Same in '10. '11. '12. '13. The dude got the benefit of the doubt because he played for a train wreck of a defense in front of him.

So I'm going by HFboards impressions. And there's a reason people like to say "is goalie A top 10, or just lumped in with the Howard's of the world".

So I say again...Ward needs to get his own taglines!

When he was at his regular season peak a few years ago, he was nipping at elite status. But generally he's played too many games, dealt with injuries and confidence issues, and played behind one of the worst defensive groups of the past 5 years. That'll take a toll.

He was money late in the 08-09 season and during that years playoffs minus the Conference Finals. Probably some of the best goaltending this franchise has ever seen during that stretch.

It's unfortunate he never had any quality backups, which is why he played so many games a season. He also unfortunately was on the losing end of two 'Win and you're in' game 82s.

It seemed like the sky was the limit after 2005-06 but that just never came to fruition.

I actually thought he has been pretty good this season, probably his best since the Canes made it to the ECF. There was a stretch right around the New year that is SV% was among the best.

Unfortunately there are way too many defensive lapses in front of him with his team under siege for long lengths of time
