Trying to see if Bowen Byram is available or possibly will be made available if the Sabres continue to fall.

The usual talking heads like Seravalli and Dregger and such have started to bring his name up as someone to "keep an eye on"

From my understanding is, Buffalo has too many LDs?

What would the cost be for Byram? would the Sabres be looking at Futures or a similar aged Forward? Draft picks?

Would love to bring the hometown boy back to BC.

From Canucks POV it would probably start with Lekkerimaki and 1st round pick. If Sabres wanted a more ready productive similar aged Forward then someone like Hoglander ++ would be the return. Hoglander is same age as Byram and is coming off a 24 goal season. Hoglander , B level prospect, 1st rnd, 4th rnd?

Would Byram+Cozens move the needle for Canucks when it comes to EP?
Buffalo should add obviously.

We need to trade for upgrades. Only interest are 1st liners, top pairing defensemen and great prospects at center or rhd. I realize that is unlikely to happen.

Byram is a nice to have on our current roster. The outcone is pretty much the exoected of the dumb Mitts for Byram trade.

I think Vancouver would probably be okay unloading EP for less based on how he's played the last 10 months.

Is Byram available? Who knows. There are rumors that he is -- and it does make some sense. Byram is wholly redundant given the fact that Dahlin and Power are here and signed long term. Byram still also has some untapped potential.

That said -- If Byram is traded, there is ZERO CHANCE.....wait....LESS THAN ZERO CHANCE that the return is picks and/or prospects. We've got an overflowing abundance of prospects in the system, and we quite literally do not have room for them all.

My guess is that it's either a 1-for-1 deal involving some sort of similar-aged RHD or Byram is part of a package (with prospects/picks/young players) to strengthen us at the 2C position, given that Cozens' future might not actually be at center long-term.

There's been talk in other threads about a Cozens/Byram for EP40 deal, which would make a metric ton of sense for each side.........assuming that Vancouver is really willing to move on from EP40 (I personally highly doubt that, but you never know).

To answer the question in the title: Maybe. But certainly not for picks/prospects.

I feel like Buffalo chases trades.

This strikes me as a trade that they are looking for his replacement almost instantly if they went through with it

Byram is not bad, he can move the puck, play PP, he is still young, but our GM is an idiot. We already have two LDs with similar abilities in Dahlin and Power, and for some reason he added Byram, but in four years he has not added a single defensive top 4 RD. Our defense is poorly designed and constantly causes problems because of it.

Adams definitely should not trade Byram for futures, only a hockey deal.

So Adams trades for Byram and not full year later Byram available? Mans not very good at GMing.
Not really - a top 5 pick top 4 D will
Bring back more value than an expiring rfa mitts count on it - see Larson for hall at the time

These D have super high value league wide

Adams should never have traded Mitts for Byram, given the presence of Power and Dahlin (oh, and Samuelsson and Johnson also at LHD).

This offseason it might have finally clicked that building a playoff team isn't solely about accumulating talent.....the fit of said talent also matters.

Picks are just currency and can be instantly flipped for real assets, just as the the team trading for BB would have done with the picks Buffalo were to receive. This fact seems to escape far too many, far too often. If the value is there, the deal gets made and whether it's picks, prospects, players or a combination thereof matters little. GM's should look for the best value, period and they generally do

EP40 has tendinitis on his knee and a jammed wrist. Maybe the Canucks trade him in the future but it certainly wont be when is underperforming. Why sell an asset when its stock is low? its not going to crash.....EP40's game didnt just magically disappear. If you look at his anylytics, he is skating much slower and shooting much less with less velocity on his shot. Clearly an injury issue. He will have muiltple 100 point season during his current long term contract.

Again, not saying he wont be traded during that contract, but im almost 100 percent certain he wont be traded when he is underperforming and his value is down.

Byram, Cozen for EP40 is not enough. Especially if DC is not a legit centre as that would be a massive hole for the Canucks,

Unfortunately, if Sabres arent looking for picks and prospects, or undersized goal scoring winger like Hoglander then it doesnt seem like the Canucks would have the assets to be in the running for Byram.

Byram for C.Murphy as a base (picks to to be added wherever needed)?
Murphy could be interesting, but... hardly for Byram. But you could have Jokiharju and the pick could be.

Today, Murphy is better than Byram and would make Buffalo a better team.

Byram has (had?) obvious potential, and that's why he's worth more - but he's in trade talks because that potential is in question after some injuries. If he was on the track most thought he'd be, he would be a top-pairing Dman by now. Unfortunately, he's not near that (yet?) and there's doubt he'll ever be a good defenceman at this point.

I'm also not a Hawks fan, just FYI. They are just a team that's likley to be cool with taking on potential in exchange for current talent, and Murphy is one of few RD that may be available. It's a somewhat similar situation to the Chychrun/Jensen deal that was a win-win despite the value seeming off.

Knowing our slow-witted GM, once he trades Byram for futures, he won't be able to find another deal and will end up drafting some of those futures after we miss the playoffs again. It would be better to find a hockey trade.

But what is Murphy's real value now? Maybe the best question to ask is Chicago fans.

It makes no sense for us to sell Byram cheap, he looks decent for his ability, but our problem is that we have two offensive-minded D playing on the same pairing, and we have third similar D, and all of them are lefties. They all want and need to play PP as well.

Lol, ok, fair enough. I'll be honest, as a Sens fan, I have nothing but empathy for our division rival Sabres fans. It's been a long 6 years here, so I can't even imagine what doubling that would be like o_O. At least Ottawa gave you guys a nice W on Tuesday!

What would Sabres fans say about a deal around Brock Nelson and Byram/Samuelson? Ik there’s a big age gap but a big reason the team isn’t working is because there’s no consistent veteran to give you 35 & 35 every year.
