Intermediate stick/junior or senior plug?

I have an old intermediate one piece that's a bit too short for me. I need to buy an extension for it. Which should I buy, a junior or senior plug? Or do I have to shave the plug down to make it fit?

My One95 int OPS required a jr plug. I managed to jam a senior plug into my Dolomite int shaft... will probably never be able to get it out. Shoulda shaved it down, stupid me.

I ended up having an extra senior plug around the house. I had to shave it down a bit for it to fit into the stick. I don't think I'll be able to get the plug out now. :laugh:

If you have a workshop or bench vise in your basement this isn't too bad of a chore. Just clamp the thing (the plug and not your stick obviously) in a vise and pull with all of your weight until it comes loose.

... and hope you don't land on your ass when it gives :laugh:

knowing me, that is EXACTLY what would happen :laugh:
 
A junior plug will fit better in an intermediate cyclone.

As a general rule, but this also depends on what year the stick was made:
Jr plugs fit better in most Bauer intermediate sticks
Sr plugs fit better in most RBK intermediate sticks
Jr plugs fit better in most older Easton intermediate sticks

This is just my experience. Anyone agree or disagree?

Agreed... kind of. Because shaving/sanding down may fit better than a jr plug in many cases. Sr plugs will not even come close to fitting into a TPS senior, let alone an intermediate, without making it look like it's gonna burst. I tried (after one broke and I tried to go wood blade + wood plug to create a Frankenstick), and I had to heat the crap out of it, shove it in REAL hard, and it looked 9 months pregnant and less than reliable. A junior wasn't quite big enough, but close.

In hindsight, I really should have spent the extra 5 minutes to shave it down a bit, and would have sanded it down for sure if I had a belt sander.
 
Now here's what I don't get:

The Jr/Int/Sr are all different sized shafts. That doesn't bother anyone that plugs their int sticks?

What about a senior Cyclone though? Sr. plug sure as hell wont fit.

Senior wood plugs are hit or miss. Sometimes we get them with full radiused corners and sometimes they come in almost square on the corners.

Oggie grips are radiused pretty good, but unless you like a big knob (Classic) or want to try a curved grip, then you're out of luck with these grips.

Most endplugs, Oggies, and TPS plugs seem to need tape shims though. I find that in most of the new sticks, except Warrior that the endplugs are slopppy.
 
Typically I buy senior plugs and file them down. It sucks, but what can you do.

Once or twice I've seen a junior plug fit. The intermediate plugs I've seen for whatever reason are even smaller than junior...not sure why.

And if Oggie could make a shorter plug with no butt end on it, that'd be fantastic.

A junior will almost always work in an intermediate stick. You just might have to shim the heck out of it so it stays in without loosening up.

With a senior plug you always risk the chance of it being too big and having to shave it down.

My advice is to just dry fit either a Sr or Jr plug to see which one works best before you actually install it.
