Recently read a story about a Lucille Ball statue that was to be replaced and it was very ugly. Thought this might make a good thread as there are plenty of strange statues out there and they are all interesting (in their own way).

Or I could delete this thread and start a Pokemon thread. You can never have too many Pokemon threads after all.

Y'know how most pro teams might construct a statue or even a bust, of a famous athlete who played there and was very successful, popular, and loved by the fanbase?

Like that Gretzky one posted earlier.

Here's what the Rogers-owned Toronto Blue Jays felt was an appropriate statue outside of their stadium.

Outside of their stadium (renamed the Rogers Center, instead of the ever-popular SkyDome), stands a statue not of Joe Carter, or Roberto Alomar, but......of the former owner, the late Ted Rogers.

.....the Jays are one of just two teams who have bronzed a former owner before any players. The other is the L.A. Angels, who in 2009 unveiled a statue of Gene Autry, the franchise’s founding owner who remained at the helm until his death in 1998, a span of 38 years. Baseball’s other owners who have been similarly enshrined — George Steinbrenner, Connie Mack, Bud Selig and Autry — held their positions for decades and are regarded as giants of the game. Critics argue that Ted Rogers is none of those things. He isn’t the father of baseball in Toronto and his eight years as team owner pale in comparison to the contributions of others, both on and off the field.

All hail our corporate overlords! Ron Joyce, former owner of Tim Hortons, has an addiction to giving donations and having various building/stadiums/arenas named after himself. He has achieved immortality, huh?

Yeah that was pretty bad, but at least someone finally had the decency to tear it down (legally).

Ted Rogers continues to stand alone in front of our ballpark, with nary an actual player to keep him company.
