Derek Forbort is the only player from the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft to never play a game in the NHL. All other prospects have played at least one game in the NHL. Joey Hishon hasn't appeared in a regular season game but does have three playoff games last year to his credit.

2009 also only has one player from the first round (Phillippe Paradis) without one NHL game to his credit.

Just so you know how rare it is to see every player from the first round of one draft class to play at least one NHL game, it has only happened once since 1983, and that was the amazing draft of 2003. If Forbort can crack the NHL he will make 2010 a very rare draft.

Maybe one of these sayings will apply here...

Good things come to those who wait.

A watched pot never boils.

We shall serve no wine before it's time.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.

The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it.

He that can have patience can have what he will.

Some hockey players are like old chickens----They need
to be cooked for a long time before they are ready.

:sarcasm:

That is an interesting stat, but I'm sure Forbort will get his shot some day. A guy with his skill set takes time, and even if he winds up in a third pairing role, it's still a quality pick. With that said, I wish the Kings would have taken Tarasenko or that Gormley or Fowler would have fallen another two or three spots.

It's not too late for him to surpass a guy like McNabb who I would still label as a bubble player. Give it another year, Forbort could exceed McNabb if he has a terrific year in Manchester and gains some confidence in his abilities.

If Regehr departs after this season, there will also be another opening for a guy like Forbort to step into.

At this point I'd be shocked if he doesn't get a game or two at some point in his career. That would make the 2010 a real tip of the hat (overall) to scouts and GM's. To on one standard go 30-for-30 is an incredibly rare feat.

Here's hoping Forbort goes ala Hickey and just needed a lot of time and fewer bodies in front of him on the depth chart to be a NHL regular.

Yeah, he is guaranteed to play in the NHL. LA just has a lot of depth and Forbort was always a long-term project.

This is exactly what I was going to say. On another team, I believe Forbort would have already had some games under his belt at the NHL level. That being said, I'm still on the fence as to whether he has a place on this team. He needs to find an edge to his game - I think that's the only way he makes it. Let's see what his second full season in Manchester brings.

He was always a project and D-men take longer to develop
