One would think that improving our D core would take some pressure off a guy who is not really good enough to be a 1D but had to be out of necessity last year.
Well the article thinks Staal is our top left handed D. It’s pretty horridly written and completely unnecessary.

I'm not that concerned about his point production to be honest. 25 points in 17-18 including 6 assists on the power play and 25 points in 18-19 and no power play points and I can't remember him even playing power play---which means his average of 21 minutes a night was almost exclusively 5v5 or 4v5. People hate +/- but I'll point out that in two losing Rangers seasons he went from a -27 in 17-18 to a -4 last year. He had a lot more hits last year too.

He has his brain dead moments and his f***ups--that's true. He's not really a 1st pairing D in my eyes though. Properly positioned he would be a second pair guy on a good team. All in all it wasn't a great year for him but comparatively speaking to the rest of the D last year his was the best year. He is absolutely the best left D that we have at the moment and unless and until one of the young guys like Rykov or Hajek overtake him or K'Andre signs a deal and comes on board I wouldn't even think of moving him.

I also think it's still a big mischaracterization that our rebuild is short-lived. They had two unique opportunities to bring in two high-end talents at key positions of need, and they decided to make those moves. We still have a lot of developing prospects, poor depth at the professional level, and some bigger contracts that need to be removed from the books. I think we took a significant step this summer, but next year will still be a transition year for the Rangers. I think they'll be closer to the playoffs, but I'm still expecting them to miss.

Didn’t read the article but, as of today, is Brady Skjei even top 3 in pressure on this defense?

Look who wrote it:

The internet is full of nobodies playing journalist. When I search for "NY Rangers News" on the internet, 90% of what I see is this crap unless there is actual news that legit news organizations cover.
