No heat from this guy,we never got beat playing hockey in that game, just lost in a gimmick, not playing hockey.

The champion really wasn't determined this year imo.

Let's not get carried away here. The champion was determined. It was determined in an unsatisfactory manner, but it was determined.

The champion of an individual skills competition was determined, the champion of the team game called hockey was never determined that fateful night.

I've never seen a tournament that crowns the "champion of the team game called hockey". That shootout definitively decided the winner of the 2017 World Junior Championship though. How much stock you put into that win is up to you, but the winner (or champion of that particular tournament) was decided.

This might get some heat but I personally consider Canada's 2017 World Junior Team to be co-Champions of the World Juniors, shootouts can go either way. If the Stanley Cup and Olympic Gold are determined by continuous OT than so should everything else for those are the 2 highest prizes in Hockey..therefore it should be the standard way to determine all hockey championships. I also believe that the World Cup in soccer shouldn't be determined by penalty kicks either, it should be golden goal.

So can I claim Russia are also the co-champions because the US beat Russia in a shootout? That is awful logic.

Is Olympic Gold though? I have been thinking IIHF uses same game rules for Olympics, men's Worlds and Juniors.

I wouldn't bring soccer into this discussion. So different sport where fatigue becomes much bigger factor.

Yes Olympic Gold Medal game has a 4v4 20 minute overtime then a shootout. I believe, but could be wrong, the IIHF Worlds use a 5v5 20 minute OT plus shootout.

It depends on how you see the shootout.

I am and have been very vocal here about hating it and considering it trash and illegitimate.

I don't consider Canadian victories won in them worth anything either, so I am fair across the board with it.

I don't believe I am getting carried away, a wjc winner wasn't determined this year, for me anyway.

Others look at it differently, I just don't give victories for teams winning on gimmicks that's all.

Yeah, you are right, a winner according to the rules with the setup was decided. I just think champions have to or should be decided actually playing the game of hockey.

But that's me, I am old fashioned and a purist for the most part.

I know one thing for sure, we did not actually get beat playing the game of hockey in the gold medal game this year.

The shootout in playdown games whether they be the quarters, semis or finals has gotta go.
