Has everyone seen his numbers in the KHL the last three years....
In the last three seasons, he’s been lights out. Shestyorkin helped lead SKA to a Gagarin Cup in 2016-17, as well as the Kontinental Cup in 2017-18. In total, he’s played in 95 regular-season games with a record of 71-12-10, 1.43 GAA, .940 SV%, and 25 shutouts.
These numbers are phenomenal no matter what league they were produced. And the KHL is considered the 2nd best league in the world.
Does anyone remember when Hank first arrived on the scene? It was after the lockout season and Kevin Weeks was our starting goalie. Shortly after a bad night, Hank came in and never came out. Never relinquished the starting role in net. I see a very similar scenario happening this year with the Rangers netminders. Shestyorkin starts in Hartford, to get used to the smaller ice rink, with Hank possibly having a good start to the season. But we all know Hank will throw in some terrible clunkers now and then. It seems when things go bad for Hank it goes really bad. He has been letting a bad goal upset him to the point where he doesn't recover and it only gets worse as the game goes on. There will be plenty of opportunities for Shestyorkin to move in and grab Hank's job. And I believe it will be sooner rather than later. Maybe midseason. And with Benoit Allaire coaching this kid (he'll be 24 in Dec.) there's no telling how good he will be,... based on what he has already accomplished.
Move over King, the Prince of Russia has arrived.
The Rangers signed him this summer and are ready to cash in on their steal of the century. The Rangers will put the best goalie in net. Welcome the backstop of the future, a lot sooner than you think.
Of all the outstanding prospects and rookies this team has, no one will have a bigger impact. You heard it hear first.
