Still a hard pass for me. I like Igor a lot, but I dont think its smart to tie up that much cap with him. When Igor was in a rut last year Quick was more than fine.. maybe if we have an average goalie Rangers give up 2 more goals this game, Rangers probably still outscore them at the end of the day.. goalies like Matt Murray and Adin Hill have won cups.

If the cap goes up to the rumored amount in short order ($95+), then I'm absolutely re-signing him to 11-12.

People keep pointing out winning with average goaltending but this team has been reliant on goaltending since the 2005 lockout which is a MAJOR culture change for this team. I don't suddenly expect them to become like the 2010 Blackhawks just because we've reallocated his cap hit to filling out the roster, which is not something I trust Drury to do considering this teams 5v5 and defensive woes.

The bottom will drop out real quick without Igor there, and don't expect another rebuild via blowing up the core either cause we all know that ain't happening either. You'll get a retool with Igor.

So let it drop out so we can retool or rebuild. We already have one boat achor.

what if his best season is in the past. I am nervous giving big money to any goalie and one who is a bit fragile

He should have taken the 8 year $88m contract at an aav of $11m per season when it was offered.

He is expecting them to offer $12 or $13 million, when he is a 2.91 and a .913? Those numbers don't exactly scream best in the world. If he wants to have a salary to indicate he is the best in the world, than he has to perform at that level.

Igor is a mental little person. Sorry, he is. He is not a goalie you're going to win the cup with. He'll give up some backbreaking goal somewhere down the line.
I'll fight you all day on this one as I have countless times in the past - he's been the best player in the playoffs in nearly each year he's played. Whether that's worth the contract price is a totally different discussion. (12m is too high in my humble opinion)

But he's definitely able to win a cup if you manage to have a good roster around him. I have zero doubt about that.

If you take price out of the discussion, I would not take any other goalie over him in the league during the playoffs. Not a single one. I prefer him to every other player.

How do you know he will continue to play at that level in the playoffs when, outside of 21-22, he has not played anywhere close to that level consistently in any of his other regular seasons spanning 175 games? Expecting someone to constantly vastly outperform their regular season output does not seem like a very good expectation to me.

Hank was better for his career in the playoffs

I don’t. That’s why I say the contract is too much in my post. I’m just talking about his performance thus far. Its been excellent and I couldn’t ask more of a goalie.

I would take him over anyone else if money were no issue based on his play in the playoffs so far.

But I don’t KNOW it’s going to continue at that level.

Even if we could somehow justify that Igor (or any G) is worth $12-13mm, we simply aren’t the team that can afford to do it. A team with a bunch of locked up sweetheart contracts and ELCs who is ready to make an annual cup run, that team could take the risk. With aging vets on LT deals, a desperate need to refresh the D core and sitting closer to retooling than winning, we are the polar opposite of the type of team that could afford such a luxury.

Because he has played amazing in the games that matter (playoffs) since he was 20. Khl and NHL. You can play the what if have game all you want, but he has an amazing record and stats when it matters. That’s what he gets a contract for.
