Who is your starter for the rest of the tournament, Adin Hill or Jordan Binnington?
You’re bang on. Hill is definitely better. But Canada missed on selecting their best current goalie. There’s a guy playing for the Caps who should be the starter.

I think at this point, you have to run with Binnington. Hill hasn't played any games so putting him would be too much of a gamble.
Every shot is a gamble with Binnington. Playing him more isn’t a gamble, you already know what you’re getting. 1-2 soft goals per game. You’re not going to beat the Americans in the final with even one.

I don’t really see Hill as a gamble. It’s not like he’s inexperienced or particularly cold. His last start was 10 days ago. The whole point of having multiple starters because you know you can go to one if the first guy isn’t cutting it.

Irrespective of his performance, Team Canada has traditionally chosen a lose and you’re out policy.

Brodeur benefitted when Cujo lost to Sweden.

Luongo benefitted when Brodeur lost to the US.

In both cases, the teams were beat handily but they swapped out the goalies anyway.

If Hill goes in it has to be against Finland.

His last start was 10 days ago, so there's no way Cooper can throw him in there against the U.S. cold if Binnington has a rough outing vs the Finns (and assuming of course Canada manages to still make the final) .

And if he looks shaky against Finland at least Binnington is game-ready and can jump back if needed. But yeah, I'd start him against Finland and hope he's peak form.

If Canada starts Binnington, I doubt they make it to the final.
posted this in the Canada vs Finland thread

To recap how Canada has done against Finland in a best on best

1998 - Finland 3 Canada 2 bronze medal game
2002- Finland 1 Canada 2 Quarterfinals
2006 - Finland 2 Canada 0 Round Robin
2014 - Finland 1 Canada 2 OT Round Robin

Canada has not beat Finland by more then a goal in a best on best scenario men’s hockey the last 37 years…that should tell you how todays game will go down. Also note, Canada has never scored more than 2 goals….Our goalie can not, I repeat, CAN NOT give up a soft goal, or it’s OVER.

It's easier to do that in a longer tournament like the Olympics. In this scenario, Hill playing the Finns would've been his first game in over a week. They had to stick with the hot hand IMO.
