I love the Draft!!

There's been a lot of talk on these boards about the need for Garth to finally pull off a trade of real significance. Without focusing on who we would get in return, if Garth finally pulls the trigger, who do you see as the most likely player(s) or top prospect(s) being dealt??

Considering our only real needs are a true front line winger to play with Tavares and a top pairing D-man with the ability to take over for Streit in years to come, if Garth is going to make a significant trade, he may have to deal a package of players. If he does put together a package, what one or two player(s)/prospect(s) do you see as the most likely to go???

Before I get jumped on, let me just say, I fully expect Garth to stay the course and not make a significant move unless we are out of it approaching the trade deadline. if that is the case, perhaps Garth finally decides enough is enough and makes some trade deadline deals... Streit and Lubo are obvious trade deadline targets......
If a trade is made sooner rather then later, at this point, the obvious choices would be Okposo (because of his play), and Nino (because of his ridiculous trade demand)........ I really like Bailey and I'm hoping this is the year he takes a big step forward, but it there is a significant trade, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go. I would hate to see Bailey go, and as far as prospects, I would hate to see Brock Nelson go. I think he's gonna be the real deal! I'd rather trade Nino.

Thoughts?

Striet Viz Nabby- deadline if we are out

Players and prospects that could be traded in packages for a legit winger or dman could really be anyone imo besides Tavares,Hamonic, Nielsen and AMAC.. and Grabner a notch below those guys.

IMO Strome and Reinhart are our two "Most" unlikley prospects to be traded.

Nino is a big question mark. He has 30+ goal potential and still has tons of upside but will he act like an entiltled brat or let us develope him properley....If he sticks and becomes what we hope then we wouldnt have to be so desperate for that highly skilled winger.

After that I think anyone is on the Board depending on the player/players we would be getting...

You have to give to get and we have such a deep prospect pool that Ithink its only a matter of time to start trying to improve this team through trades...esspecially because we dont have the best luck in the FA market....

The trade for Vis was agood indication that Snow is not afraid to make a move for a vet that can and will upgrade our team...

I wouldn't be opposed to some sort of Okposo+Nino+ package if it brought back that impact-type player such as Yandle, but I just don't see anyone being available like that...at least not yet. It's tough because even though our prospect pool is so deep, it lacks the top end talent that could net you an impact player in a trade. The guys who are top end aren't getting traded. I'd expect to see a couple of mid-range moves, maybe this year's first rounder will be in play. Either way, I wouldn't expect any real moves until draft day. I think we're at least another year away from making a big, impact deal.

I've been thinking about Iginla, would the Flames give him up? I know we would have to give up something to get him but they should have went with a youth movement about 2 years ago. They are not very good this year and Iginla is the #1 winger I would want to go along side of Tavares.

I would probably go with Nino+Poulin+Mayfield+1st Rounder
For Iginla + Wideman

(I know this is more than most would want to give up but this isn't a video game, I'm trying to be realistic here)

I think this would work for both teams....We get our Winger and upgrade the defense, Wideman doesn't get a lot of love because nobody sees him play, he's a top Dman that can play a ton of minutes and contribute to the PP.

Calgary gets a very strong prospect Winger in Nino, A solid defensive prospect in Mayfield, a solid Goalie prospect in Poulin for when Kipper desides its over and a First rounder....I would probably say Calgary is getting the better of the deal but Iginla still has 4-5 years left and Wideman is only 29 years old.

I wouldn't give up our first rounder. It's a really deep draft and we already gave up our second rounder for 35 games from a 36 year old defensemen!

Yeah but I don't think Nino+Mayfield+Poulin get it done...Maybe for Iginla alone. If not the first rounder than another prospect? I think that would be over the top in Snow's eyes though.

We have no use for Iginla. We would pay a premium for a guy who is already into his silver slide.

Trade partners should be teams with a bevy of defensemen and in cap trouble for next year.

This trade is not one that would be good for the isles...

Iggy is a player that a team ready to win the cup NOW should get....If he was 28 then I would say yes...

Iginla is not the player he used to be.....That Flames would take that offer and run imo

Absolutely, I understand this...but I do think he has 3-4 very productive years left and will probably play until he's 39-40 IMO. That's 4-5 years on JT's line, as Iginla declines in his play, Strome, Nelson, Kabonov, etc. should be excelling.

I understand if Iggy was 28 you would say yes, the problem is Calgary would say no.

Moulson-JT-Iginla
Grabner-Neilson-Okposo
Ullstrom-Aucion-Bailey
Martin-Reasoner-Cizikas

Streit-Wideman
Viz-Strait
Hammer-Mac

Nabby
Nilsson

This would be before adding any of the prospects in the farm system Strome Nelson Reinhart and Donovan mainly within the next year or two.

This trade would be not only for Iginla, Wideman is 29 and very productive and as you can see bolsters the defense quite well even if streit doesn't resign here.

I love Iggy but he is 35. Not for us. Oldest we should trade for is a 32 year old and on the sunny side of that number who is a well known conditioning freak. Prefer even younger like Corey Perry but he is a UFA anyway.

Ya know what I miss most about Torrey/Arbour?

We didn't fixate on speed, size, LOCALE (though Tex Ehman killed the Isles when he drafted solely from Western Canada as if it were a fetish like leather, PVC or Massachusetts}.....

We went after the guy who made us better. Arbour could tell Bill a weakness and Bill knew what to get.

This club, as constructed, could use Iginla (skill, leadership and talent}, perhaps, but the neuropathology of this operation has Cappy demanding sub and Garth gets Chipotle. Oh, and Wang gets cap relief so he no spend.

But I would take Iginla for skill, would welcome a big winger for line 1 to make up for Moulson and his purse and would take on a skilled puck moving defenseman if it meant we moved Streit to get either of the above.

But none of this matters if we keep Cappy and the low expectations of this franchise going.

HEY GUYS! RANGER GAME SUCKED! GIMME 4O MINUTES OF PRACTICE NOW!:yo:

Oh come on...Do you not understand that the Vis trade was made in terms of our cap situation first and actually improving the team second?

I wanted Ignilia on this team years ago but lets face it, He is not the same player he once was and that is given up alot for a guy in his late 30's.

NO THANKS!

err

Iginla is UFA THIS summer 8-) We can sign him and negotiate real terms (no trade needed). I'd take him on 3 year 4.5 mill

Or if you guys don't want an old fogy winging JT (though, I think Jerome can teach JT some things) Semin is also a UFA this summer.

I wanted Semin here last year but the experts on the board don't like his heart, meanwhile he has 9pts and I am glad he took a 1yr deal, he will work on his game and get paid.

He's 35 now.. Even if he can stick around to the age of 39/40, how productive is he going to be?? I'll pass on Iginla.

Am I the only one who thinks this is absolutely bats*** crazy?!?! Three good prospects AND a 1st round pick for a 36 yr old winger and a D-man that could have been had as a free agent. Wow...wow...wow...
