1 and dump Brendan smith

Islanders 1st pick, Brady, a cheap LD, Two 2nds. I am prepared to be pooped on but I think that he’s going to be like his brother next year- 60-70 pts and an SOB. Has also worked with Quinn.

I would be interested in seeing if Ottawa fans would entertain moving him at all.

I like By, but its LaF.

Sabes the only team I see w/assets I want to even think about a trade:
1OA + CAR 2020 1st + NYR 2020 2nd + Lias + Smith
for
Dahlin + 8OA + BUF 2021 1st unprotected + Cozens + Hutton

something like that.

I mean LaF w/Kreider + Zib!!!

Gorton sounded like he wanted Lafreniere when he was talking about him after the lottery. Obviously he would never have said "Nah, we're not really that interested in him" but there's no reason to think the Rangers will trade the 1st overall unless another team makes a stupid offer.

Yeah he could have side stepped that question all together and said "well... we still have alot of work to do, blah blah blah"

Straight up said he loves his skill and compete.

Agreed. I think fans get paranoid easily but it’s pretty clear We are taking him but we aren’t going to announce it now
 
I was hoping they’d take Byfield last year (who knew this was going to happen), but when you have the #1 OA you take the best player in the draft.

They have a ton of assets they can use to trade for a Center. You take Lafreniere and run.

You dont draft based on need.

If Ott offers the 3rd 5th and Braanstrom then i would think very hard about it. Anything else is over thinking things. Take the BPA which is easily Laf

I wouldn't even do that move honestly. There's a higher likelihood of all of those guys not panning out to much than there is of Laf not being very much imo.

Even thats not enough, only a crazy overwhelming Lindros type deal should even have Gorton mention it to his staff.

Laf is best draft prospect since McDavid/Eichel/Matthews in '15/'16
Assuming there's not another comparable for at least 4 more years, he could be the the most valued draftee in an 8+ year span.

A team wanting to change their fortunes quickly, with such 'game changing' prospect, should, and should expect to, pay a drastic price.

No, you don't trade for 3 and 5.
No, you don't pick Byfield.


You take Laf. Anything else short of a Lindros-esq return would be a monumental failure.

They've accumulated a lot of depth in the farm already. They need to draft the safest thing. Laf is the consensus one and Gorton's seat is a little hot right now. I really doubt he tries to be unconventional and makes a trade or takes Byfield.
