These Habs fans coming here to talk about Laf

And we need time and experience, I'd add.
well of course, defensemen take a while to develop and even the ones we have up now are either still green on the defensive end or old as dirt. Or Trouba who I am pretty meh about as long as he stays in the second pairing and doesnt touch the top pairing. Although a whole season of shestyorkin will help them a ton.

I didn't see somebody suggest we should pick Byfield due to politics and diversity in NYC right? Nah, no way was that a real post. At least i hope it wasn't.

In an NHL execs ranking of the #1 overall picks the last ten years, the rankings came out as

1. Connor McDavid

2. Auston Matthews

3. Nathan MacKinnon

4. Rasmus Dahlin

5. Alexis Lafreniere

6. Jack Hughes

7. Aaron Ekblad

8. Nico Hischier

9. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

10. Taylor Hall

11. Nail Yakupov

The No. 1 pick draft: NHL execs reveal how Alexis Lafreniere stacks up

So way ahead of Hall. Even better than Hughes last year. A little behind MacKinnon and Matthews. If you read the article, the execs each debated Lafreniere ahead of MacKinnon and Dahlin.

Your move.

Just for shits and giggles, what would it cost Montreal for #1 overall? Kotkaniemi could be in the package, 20 year old 1C Finn to play with Kakko. Domi could be available. Pick 16. Maybe Carey Price if Habs go full youth movement?
Sorry. Not trading the first overall pick to Montreal. You also had me laughing at Carey Price. Like why?

He basically said Laf is a Kane/Ovechkin hybrid.

Well I think Kane is a good comp, except Lafreniere has more size.

But I don't mean that Lafreniere is better than Kane. That's about how effective I think he'll end up overall.

Maybe you think Hall is better than he is.

Ryan Kennedy - The Hockey News - May 11th: "Lafreniere ripped up the ‘Q’ and fought through injury to win MVP honors at the world juniors, not to mention a gold medal with Canada. His skill, drive and edge make him an elite talent."

Tony Wolak - The Hockey Writers - May 11th: "Lafrenière’s skating is already explosive, he protects the puck and shoots very well, and has elite vision to boot. Simply put, Lafrenière is a cornerstone player that will make an immediate impact."

NHL Central Scouting analysis - NHL.com - Apr. 3rd: "Lafreniere offers high-end puck skills and vision to create plays, has an impressive compete level every time he's on the ice, and elevates his game in pressure situations while demonstrating leadership skills."

Cam Robinson - Dobber Prospects - Apr. 1st: "A premier, point-producing machine of a forward. Extremely dangerous in one-on-one situations. Scores in a variety of ways. Brings the noise. Will be one of the rare wingers who will dictate everything."

Mike G. Morreale - NHL.com - Mar. 20th: "He led all players in the Canadian Hockey League (QMJHL, Ontario Hockey League, Western Hockey League) with 2.15 points per game, but as skilled and talented as Lafreniere is, the thing that makes him even more impressive is his relentlessness and willingness to play a hard game and finish checks."

Mike G. Morreale - NHL.com - Mar. 6th: "As skilled and talented as Lafreniere is, the thing that makes him even more impressive is his relentlessness and willingness to play a hard game and finish checks given an opportunity."

Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - Feb. 5th: "Physicality has emerged as yet another top-notch element in his already full tool box."

Tony Ferrari - Dobber Prospects - Jan. 29th: "He understands the game at a level that very few players do and his ability to convert on what he sees is what makes him special. The best description of his playing style is “Elite Skilled-Grinder.”"

Those aren't my words.

Laf is a bigger Post-2015 Brad Marchand with better hands and skating: and less inclination to get suspended.

his floor is a bigger Pre-2015 Brad Marchand with better hands and skating: and less inclination to get suspended.

and this might be underselling.

Tkachuk with a better offensive ceiling?

I think because he's from the Q, fans who haven't seen him have an image of a finesse player.

I think people are going to be pleasently surprised by how dirty Lafreniere is willing to get.

If only us smooth brained Rongos fans could come around to see your side, we could have convinced Gorton to trade him to the Habs. Just do it in NHL 2021 and enjoy.
